About The Position

Yorkville University and Toronto Film School are seeking Sessional Faculty for their Bachelor of Interior Design program. These are remote (Canada-based) roles requiring synchronous teaching aligned with EST time zones. The primary focus will be on studio-based instruction, guiding students through applied, real-world design scenarios. Each 12-week term typically includes 1-3 courses. Faculty will have flexibility in setting office hours while ensuring accessibility for students across time zones.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree in Interior Design or a closely related discipline.
  • Current NCIDQ certification.
  • Strong professional experience in Interior Design, with exposure to projects across residential, commercial, institutional, or mixed-use environments.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in Interior Design practice and pedagogy.
  • Dynamic and student-centred educator with experience teaching Interior Design or related disciplines in post-secondary settings.
  • Ability to translate professional practice into applied, studio-based learning environments.
  • Skilled at facilitating highly interactive, synchronous online and studio-based learning environments.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard design software, including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Photoshop.
  • Proficiency in an LMS and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Comfortable using educational technologies to support learning delivery.
  • Ability to build effective and respectful working relationships with students, colleagues, and academic partners.
  • Strong collaboration skills, sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Interior Design.
  • Master's in Architecture (where supported by relevant Interior Design experience).
  • Experience in healthcare, workplace, or adaptive reuse design.
  • Interest in or engagement with design research, including conference participation, applied research, or contributions to advancing design knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver applied, studio-based learning, guiding students through real-world design scenarios such as client briefs, spatial programming, and concept development.
  • Facilitate a highly interactive learning environment through live sessions, one-on-one progress critiques, and final project presentations.
  • Maintain an active presence, supporting students through ongoing dialogue, feedback, and guidance.
  • Evaluate student work through project-based assessments, including major design submissions.
  • Provide timely, constructive feedback and maintain regular communication, including weekly office hours, to support student development and progression.
  • Collaborate with program leadership and fellow faculty to ensure a consistent and high-quality student experience.
  • Contribute to course delivery and alignment with program outcomes.
  • Participate in faculty development opportunities and maintain currency in Interior Design practice and teaching.
