About The Position

This advertisement is to fill multiple temporary, time-limited Session OPS (Other Personal Services) positions classified as either an Administrative Assistant or a Support Services Assistant. These positions are being created to prepare for the upcoming regular 2027 Legislative Session. Multiple OPS employees will be hired to support various committees and offices within The Florida Senate. The hours per week will vary depending on the committee or office assignment. Employment is anticipated between October 2026 and May 2027.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its equivalent, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general clerical and administrative office duties, such as answering phones, greeting visitors, copying and/or filing documents, processing mail, or delivering documents within the Capitol complex.
  • Read bills, amendments, and other legislative materials on the daily calendar to the Senate body in the Chamber if selected as a Reading Clerk.
  • Process a variety of correspondence and prepare replies.
  • Prepare committee meeting notices, detailed agendas, meeting materials, meeting summaries, or meeting notebooks.
  • Operate recording software during committee meetings.
  • Track a large volume of correspondence, other communication, and reports related to certain committee responsibilities or input data to run reports.
  • Operate the vote board and display bills/amendments during Session if selected as a Vote Board Operator.
  • Proof and edit a variety of legislative documents.
  • Draft communications to the House of Representatives regarding passed legislation if selected as a Proofer/Editor.
  • Print calendars, copies of bills and amendments, and other documents for the public, staff, and lobbyists.
  • Make deliveries and run errands as required.
  • Make minor repairs to office furniture and equipment.
  • Attend doors and assist with crowd control during session and committee meetings.
  • Provide transportation as requested.
  • Perform basic carpentry and painting in the maintenance program.
  • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as required.
  • Wrap and prepare packages for mailing and delivery.
  • Assist with inventory of equipment, supplies, and properties.
  • Keep chamber, offices, halls, and restrooms clean.
  • Perform routine janitorial duties in maintaining general orderliness and cleanliness on an as-needed basis.
  • Remove office trash and other discarded office items.
