About The Position

This is a mechanical and technical position focused on understanding complex equipment, performing inspections, diagnostics, preventative maintenance, repairs, and complete rebuilds of hydraulic and battery-powered rescue equipment. The role requires disassembling, troubleshooting, repairing, and reassembling complex mechanical systems to ensure tools meet manufacturer specifications and safety standards. The ideal candidate enjoys working with their hands, solving mechanical problems, and restoring equipment to peak performance. Building trust with customers through technical expertise is key to growing the business. The role involves building relationships within the firehouse, on the training ground, and in the field, with success stemming from credibility as a skilled mechanical professional.

Requirements

  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude is essential—you enjoy taking equipment apart, diagnosing problems, rebuilding machinery, and understanding how mechanical systems operate.
  • Background in equipment service, automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, industrial maintenance, hydraulics, or similar mechanical field.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild mechanical and hydraulic equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable learning new technologies, including battery-powered rescue systems and electronic diagnostics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with first responders.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a field-based, relationship-driven role.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in a clear, practical way and confidently train end users.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel locally.

Nice To Haves

  • Background repairing hydraulic systems, rescue tools, heavy equipment, automotive, diesel, industrial machinery, or emergency equipment.
  • Experience diagnosing, rebuilding, and servicing complex mechanical equipment.
  • Firefighter, EMT, or experience working with fire departments.
  • Prior customer-facing or territory management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform annual inspections, preventative maintenance, testing, repairs, and complete rebuilds on hydraulic and battery-powered rescue tools.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and perform repairs both in the field and in the shop.
  • Disassemble equipment, replace worn or damaged components, rebuild assemblies, and return tools to manufacturer performance specifications.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures on-site and provide timely technical solutions.
  • Ensure all tools meet safety, operational, and performance standards before returning them to service.
  • Maintain accurate service documentation, inspection records, and repair reports.
  • Conduct hands-on tool demonstrations, maintenance instruction, and training drills.
  • Educate departments on proper equipment operation, preventative maintenance, and best practices.
  • Serve as the trusted technical resource for chiefs, officers, mechanics, and purchasing decision-makers.
  • Build long-term customer relationships by delivering dependable service and technical expertise.
  • Grow Hurst-Jaws of Life product sales within your assigned territory by leveraging your technical expertise and trusted customer relationships.
  • Identify opportunities through preventative maintenance visits, existing customer relationships, and new outreach.
  • Manage the full customer engagement process: demonstration → evaluation → quote → implementation.
  • Partner with Firematic's apparatus and equipment teams on bundled opportunities.
  • Represent Firematic at trade shows, department events, and industry functions.
