This role involves testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, servicing, maintaining, and upgrading General Electric equipment and its components, specifically focusing on Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) and Variable Frequency Transformers (VFTs). The engineer will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for VFT and FACTS technology in the U.S., conduct design reviews, assess risks, and serve as the technical point of contact for customers and project managers. The position requires providing feedback to the Project Engineering Team to ensure technical quality and constructability, participating in engineering design reviews, and developing a knowledge base for VFT controls and drives. Field work for commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting on VFT & FACTS installations, including power electronic valves, synchronous machines, switchgear, cooling systems, and control systems, is also a key responsibility. The role includes remote assistance to clients for failure investigations, supporting business development by creating a VFT technology database, assisting with factory testing of power electronics components and control systems, evaluating and improving equipment testing procedures, identifying obsolescence issues, supervising FACTS system upgrades, and traveling to manufacturing locations for inspections and problem resolution. Additionally, the engineer will perform failure analysis studies and contribute to proposal development, including technical specifications and responses.
