About The Position

This role involves testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, servicing, maintaining, and upgrading General Electric equipment and its components. The engineer will support service and design requirements in active service projects and Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) installations. This position acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Variable Frequency Transformer (VFT) and FACTS technology in the U.S. Responsibilities include undertaking detailed design reviews and risk assessments of engineering deliverables from subcontractors, serving as the technical point of contact for customers and project managers, and providing feedback to the Project Engineering Team to ensure technical quality, feasibility, completeness, and constructability of the design. The role also involves participating in engineering design reviews, providing insights on VFT controls and drives upgrades, and developing a knowledge base for the technology. Field work for commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting on VFT & FACTS installations, including power electronic valves, synchronous machines, switchgear, cooling systems, and control systems, is also a key part of the job. Remote assistance to clients for VFT & FACTS installation failures and supporting business development by establishing a VFT technology database are also included. The engineer will assist FACTS engineers with factory testing, evaluate and develop improved equipment testing procedures, identify obsolescence issues, supervise FACTS system upgrades, and travel to manufacturing locations for inspections and problem resolution. Performing studies and analysis to understand root causes of failures and assisting clients with FACTS installation failures are also part of the role. Additionally, the engineer will contribute to proposal development, including writing technical specifications, estimating materials, supporting sourcing, directing designers, and developing technical responses.
