About The Position

American Piledriving Equipment (APE) is seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead the Mid-Atlantic Service Department. This position is responsible for directing daily shop and field service operations, developing a team of skilled technicians, and ensuring our customers receive safe, reliable, and high-quality equipment every time. This is a leadership position for someone who thrives on organization, accountability, and continuous improvement. While technical knowledge of heavy equipment is important, success in this role depends on your ability to lead people, prioritize work, communicate effectively, and drive operational excellence. As Service Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Service Department.

Requirements

  • Previous experience leading technicians or managing a service department.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with heavy construction, industrial, hydraulic, or diesel equipment.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience coaching employees and building team accountability.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Navision, and Smartsheet

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with pile driving, foundation construction equipment, hydraulic systems, vibratory hammers, diesel hammers, cranes, and other heavy construction equipment is highly desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Service Technicians.
  • Plan and prioritize shop workflow to meet customer commitments.
  • Ensure equipment is inspected, repaired, tested, and ready for service before delivery.
  • Maintain high standards for quality, safety, and workmanship.
  • Coordinate field service activities and technician scheduling.
  • Review work orders, repair documentation, and service records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Communicate with customers regarding repair status, scheduling, and technical support.
  • Work closely with the Branch Manager, Sales, Parts, and Office staff to ensure efficient branch operations.
  • Monitor department performance, labor utilization, turnaround time, and customer satisfaction.
  • Drive continuous improvement in service processes, technician development, and operational efficiency.
