About The Position

This is not a Civil Service Position. The City of Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) employees are subject to provisions of Court Orders entered in United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division, Case No. 77-71100 regarding certain terms and conditions of employment. DWSD does not honor reversion rights for internal candidates. Applicants for open positions at the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time. The Service Line Leader is responsible for supervising, guiding, directing, and training staff within the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) Meter Operations functional unit. This role involves managing work on projects, assigning and prioritizing tasks, and is responsible for completing all local, State, Federal and DWSD required reports.

Requirements

  • Ten (10) years’ experience in related operational or functional fields; such as construction, plumbing, or a combination of related work experience and education
  • A minimum of seven to ten (7-10) years of supervisory experience
  • S4 License
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, work in confined spaces, elevated locations and descend underground
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds or participate in team lifts of heavier items
  • Ability to walk, stand, or work for long periods of time
  • Demonstrate normal color perception
  • Ability to hear audible alarms and detect abnormal equipment sounds
  • Visually inspect equipment and processes at any time of the day or night
  • Pass vision, biomechanical and baseline physical and annual fit tests
  • Ability to wear respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment
  • At specific job sites may require the ability to carry, stack, dig, shovel, hit, push, pull and other efforts that require considerable physical strength
  • Undergo alcohol and drug screening
  • Subject to a criminal background investigation

Responsibilities

  • Maximizing team’s productivity
  • Manage annual department budget items as assigned
  • Responsible for record keeping and preparing necessary reports that include logs and computer files
  • Assist in the training of department staff and maintaining
  • Provide ongoing safety and injury prevention programs

  • Prepare and maintain Standard Operating Procedures
  • Prepare performance evaluations of assigned team
  • Perform shift work which includes all day, afternoon, night, weekend and holiday assignments

  • Assign shifts, work weeks, holiday coverage, etc.
