About The Position

The Pharmacy Operations Manager at Ellis Medicine oversees all operational aspects of the hospital pharmacy to ensure safe, timely, and cost‑effective medication use. This leader manages staffing, workflow, inventory, regulatory compliance, and cross‑functional collaboration with nursing and medical teams to support high‑quality patient care and a 24‑hour pharmacy service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required
  • Active, unrestricted New York State pharmacist license in good standing or eligibility to obtain licensure.
  • Minimum 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Clinical informatics experience (e.g., Cerner, Omnicell) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Designated Pharmacist In-Charge for Ellis Hospital and ensure compliance with NYS and federal regulations.
  • Lead daily pharmacy operations, including tier 1 huddles, dispensing, staffing, IV and sterile compounding, and after‑hours coverage.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, evaluate, coach, and develop pharmacists and pharmacy technicians; maintain competency programs and staffing across main and satellite locations.
  • Oversee formulary management, purchasing, inventory optimization, controlled substance security, and DSCSA compliance.
  • Ensure regulatory and accreditation compliance (USP 797/800, DEA, Joint Commission, DOH, CMS, BNE) and maintain accreditation readiness.
  • Direct medication safety and quality programs: error reporting, root‑cause analysis, corrective actions, drug diversion prevention, and control checks.
  • Support management of departmental budget, identify cost‑savings and revenue opportunities, and report on KPIs (turnaround time, fill accuracy, inventory turns, budget variance).
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives and technology implementations (Lean/Six Sigma, ADCs, XR2, Simplifi, Hexmodal).
  • Develop and maintain intra‑ and inter‑departmental policies and procedures; collaborate with clinical informatics to optimize pharmacy information systems and billing/charging processes.
  • Communicate departmental updates to pharmacy, nursing and medical staff and represent pharmacy operations on the P&T committee and other institutional committees.
  • Coordinate clinical programs with the Clinical Pharmacy Manager and Director to enhance staff skills and competencies.
  • Serve as a primary contact for emergency management programs, including the CDC Chempack program, and support emergency drills and responses.
  • Oversight, optimization, implementations, upgrades, and unit moves of Automated Dispensing Devices.
  • Oversight of inpatient and infusion center sterile compounding.
  • Departmental contact and program oversight for Pharmaceutical Waste.
  • Lead medication safety subcommittees, regulatory platform coordination, and continuous quality improvement to enhance patient outcomes and resource utilization.
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, and human resources for inpatient, lead, and infusion center pharmacists and technicians; drive colleague engagement through tiered huddles.
  • Partner with the Director of Pharmacy on budget oversight; identify, implement, and track cost savings and revenue enhancement initiatives; collaborate with Materials and Supply Chain on inventory management.
