About The Position

Methods Machine Tools was established in 1958 with three employees and a handful of refurbished machines. Since then, the company has become one of the largest privately owned machine tool importers in North America. Methods designs and implements custom machining setups, including machine tool selection, automation integration, and turnkey automation cells. The corporate campus in Sudbury, Mass., comprises a showroom/technical center, which contains automation, applications, and a full range of cutting-edge machines. Methods has more than 300 employees, nine technology centers, one high precision machining center, and has installed more than 40,000 machines throughout North America. We are seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to diagnose, repair, and maintain CNC milling and turning machines at customer facilities. This role involves both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, requiring a solid understanding of mechanical systems, CNC controls, and electro-mechanical assemblies. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, customer-focused, and has a proven ability to work independently while delivering exceptional service.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to stay calm and professional during stressful situations.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with experience in CNC repair.
  • Proficient in reading mechanical drawings, part prints, ladder diagrams, and wiring schematics.
  • Experience using diagnostic tools, including multimeters and phase checkers.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in CNC field service.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Fanuc controls.

Nice To Haves

  • CNC programming experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair CNC milling and turning machines at customer locations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair automatic tool changers, pallet systems, spindles, and turret mechanisms.
  • Perform ball screw and axis support bearing replacements and alignments.
  • Repair and align hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings and part prints to execute precise repairs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic systems, including CNC controls and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Read and follow ladder and wiring diagrams to diagnose issues.
  • Utilize tools such as digital multimeters, ohmmeters, and phase checkers for troubleshooting.
  • Repair CNC controls, including Fanuc systems, and perform programming as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to explain diagnoses, repair progress, and preventive maintenance measures.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor when representing the company.
