The Service Development Director (SDD) implements the facility’s business and marketing plans and develops strategic marketing plans to meet facility objectives. The position manages the marketing department’s operating budgets and territory plans. The SDD gathers information from referral professionals and facilities, meets with potential patients, and conducts pre-admission screenings as a liaison between referral sources and the hospital to help determine admission eligibility. The SDD also helps patients and families who do not meet the hospital’s level-of-care requirements or program services identify care alternatives, and communicates screening results and recommendations to patients, families, and referral sources according to company policy. The SDD supports community development of services, leads Service Development Representatives, and provides consultative and educational services throughout the month. The department promotes mental health prevention awareness. The SDD builds positive relationships with community resources and networks to support a seamless continuum of care and collaborative relationships. The position’s overall goal is to improve community education about mental health needs and patients referred to the organization. The role is performed in a smoke-free workplace. Work may involve occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles, cleaning chemicals, dust, mist, and steam; noise levels may be moderate to high. Approximately 75% or more of work time is spent indoors, in a building protected from weather but not necessarily from temperature changes. The environment may involve frequent interruptions and stress, and risk associated with providing services to psychiatric patients in acute or crisis situations. Exposure Category II applies, involving potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.
