About The Position

The Service Desk Associate is responsible for greeting customers cheerfully, answering customer questions, and contacting management or department associates for resolution when necessary. This role may involve opening or closing the Service Desk depending on the shift. The associate will answer incoming calls, make pages over the intercom, and complete various transactions such as lottery, bill pay, and Western Union, while adhering to company and legal regulations. They will also follow guidelines for tobacco sales, perform refunds or exchanges according to company policy, and communicate pricing, quality, and other concerns to appropriate managers. Keeping the desk area clean and organized, completing necessary logs for store compliance, and operating front-end scanning equipment and registers are also key responsibilities. This includes efficiently bagging merchandise, handling all tenders accurately, and maintaining proper security measures and cash drawer accounting procedures. The associate must also follow all store and legal guidelines regarding the sale of tobacco and alcohol, maintain knowledge of store layout, weekly ads, specials, and promotions to answer customer questions and generate sales through suggestive selling. Cooperation with co-workers and supervisors is essential for the smooth function of the department and store, and continuous improvement of job performance is expected. Management may assign other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Completed or working towards a high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • No prior experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Greets customers cheerfully and answers customer questions to best of ability.
  • Contacts management or department associates whenever necessary to provide resolution.
  • May open or close Service Desk depending on shift.
  • Answers incoming calls and makes pages over intercom.
  • Completes lottery, bill pay and Western Union transactions while adhering to company and legal regulations.
  • Follows company and legal guidelines for tobacco sales.
  • Performs refunds or exchanges while following company policy to ensure a quality customer service experience.
  • Communicates pricing, quality, and other concerns to appropriate managers/associates.
  • Responsible to keep desk area clean and organized.
  • Completes necessary logs for store compliance policies.
  • Operates front-end scanning equipment and register, performs all related check out procedures including properly bagging merchandise efficiently and placing merchandise in customer’s cart.
  • Responsible for all tenders including cash, checks, debit/credit slips and coupons.
  • Maintains proper security measures and cash drawer accounting procedures, avoiding excessive overages and/or shortages.
  • Follows all store and legal guidelines regarding sale of tobacco and alcohol.
  • Maintains knowledge of store layout to answer customer questions.
  • Maintains knowledge of weekly ads, advertised and in-store specials, and special promotions in order to answer customer questions, generate sales by suggestive selling and to assure accuracy in ringing up merchandise.
  • Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
  • May complete other duties of staff as required by management.
