About The Position

As a member of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family of companies, SpartanNash is a food solutions company that distributes grocery and household goods across all 50 states. The Service Clerk provides highly satisfactory service and assistance to guests, bags groceries, offers carry-out service to vehicles, retrieves carts from the parking area, performs bottle-return tasks, and completes janitorial duties as needed. The role also supports the financial best interests of the store during the shift and completes other assigned duties in a timely manner.

The position is based at 103 Captain's Corner in Charlevoix, Michigan. Work takes place in a typical retail store environment with varied temperatures, exposure to outside weather conditions, and usually low-to-moderate noise. Travel requirements vary by assignment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Good oral communication skills.
• Ability to interact politely and effectively with customers.
• May be required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; may need to bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.

Responsibilities

• Use proper bagging supplies and techniques when handling guests’ purchases.
• Empty bottle bins and clean bottle machines and the bottle-return area.
• Collect, return, clean, and organize shopping carts.
• Take groceries to customers’ vehicles and load them into vehicles.
• Know the location of products carried in the store and assist guests as needed.
• Handle spoiled or damaged products according to established guidelines.
• Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-stocked department.
• Work independently of others.
• Perform cleaning duties and other assigned work in a timely manner.
• Follow PPE and safety guidelines.
• Follow food safety and cleaning expectations.
• Follow guest experience guidelines.
• Perform tasks in other departments as assigned based on customer experience needs.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
