About The Position

As a member of SpartanNash, a food solutions company and part of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family of companies, the Service Clerk provides service and assistance to guests. The role includes bagging groceries, carrying purchases to customers’ vehicles, retrieving and organizing carts, performing bottle-return tasks, and completing janitorial duties as needed. The Service Clerk helps ensure the shift contributes to the store’s financial best interests and completes other assigned duties in a timely manner. The position is based at 6425 28th St SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49546. Work is performed in a typical retail store environment with varied temperatures and exposure to outside weather conditions. Noise levels are usually low to moderate. Travel requirements vary by assignment.

Requirements

Good oral communication skills.
Ability to interact politely and effectively with customers.
Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, and to bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide satisfactory service and assistance to guests.
Use appropriate bagging supplies and techniques when handling guests’ purchases.
Empty bottle bins and clean bottle machines and the bottle-return area.
Collect, return, clean, and organize shopping carts.
Carry out and load groceries into customers’ vehicles.
Maintain familiarity with product locations in the store.
Handle spoiled or damaged products according to established guidelines.
Maintain a clean, attractive, and well-stocked department.
Work independently as needed.
Perform cleaning duties and other assigned work in a timely manner.
Follow personal protective equipment and safety guidelines.
Follow food safety and cleaning expectations.
Follow guest experience guidelines.
Perform tasks in other departments when assigned based on customer experience needs.
Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
