The Service Center Clerk III supports freight dispatch, line-haul coordination, billing, tracking, and overage, shortage, and damage (OS&D) functions. The role creates freight manifests, assists with local and road-driver assignments, maintains dispatch information, and communicates with drivers and service center personnel to move freight within service standards. It also supports planning dispatches to meet cost and service goals and may handle OS&D investigations, documentation, repacking, and reporting. The position serves as a resource for less experienced clerical staff by answering questions, providing guidance, and delivering on-the-job training. Depending on assigned duties, the clerk may also maintain employee and payroll records, track applicant information for AAP compliance, process payroll changes, and assist with new-employee orientation. Regular attendance is required, and employees may be assigned other duties as operational, safety, or other needs require. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, or equivalent education and experience; knowledge of service center functions; computer proficiency, including MS Word and Excel; and strong customer service and communication skills. The employee must be able to work independently or with a team, handle multiple priorities in a high-volume environment, and may need to work a night or alternate schedule with proper notification. The job involves office equipment and computer use, lifting at least 20 pounds, and exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and potentially hazardous materials and varied weather conditions.
