About The Position

It is expected that all Service Associates will function as members of a team dedicated to support the highest quality care and services to our patients by assisting in such functions as maintaining a safe, clean and functional environment; assisting with dietary aspects of care; facilitating communication, i.e., using Rovers; transporting patients and assisting visitors. As an integral part of the team, the Service Associate is responsible for activities which promote patient focused care within the Patient Unit.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent with vocational/technical training
  • Effective English communication skills, both written and oral (Medium proficiency)
  • OHS Annual Assessment

Responsibilities

  • Maintain general patient care environment including cleaning of patient rooms
  • Cleans patient environment
  • Turn around time for discharge: cleans in accordance with central service agreement.
  • 100% compliance to Quality Control checks.
  • Restocks patient rooms as required
  • Transports patient.
  • Maintains cleanliness of non-patient areas, i.e., unit based supply rooms and cooling stock.
  • Checking expiration dates on supplies core or unit based.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment through preventative and interventional measures.
  • Adherence to medical center's infection control, safety, and Disaster policies and procedures
  • Tags and removes broken equipment immediately.
  • Communicates information regarding broken equipment to charge person of unit.
  • Ensures the patient's rights are respected as identified in the Patient Bill of Rights.
  • Promotes the core values of Patient/Family Centered Care.
  • Recognize the family as defined by the patient.
  • Accept the concept of the family being the constant in the patient's life.

  • Delivers and collects trays to bedside or communal dining areas.
  • Clear off bedside tables prior to meal service.
  • Delivers and sets up tray.
  • Assists with feeding as required
  • Collects trays.
  • Transports equipment, supplies and specimens as necessary.
  • Delivery in a timely manner according to MMC policy and procedures.
  • Performs emergency clean up housekeeping Tasks.
  • Disposes of waste materials; blood and body substances, chemicals, and trash properly to ensure a safe work environment
  • Adheres to infection and safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs light engineering duties, as necessary, bed brakers, bed pulls, and light bulb replacement.
  • Bed to be immediately taken out of service if not able to repair or unsafe.
  • Escalate maintenance issues when original intervention is not effective
  • Ability to set priorities, problem solve, use proper judgement in difficult situations and be flexible in non-emergent situations.
  • Complete assignments within established time frames.
  • Ask questions and seek clarification when necessary
  • Escalate difficult situations as appropriate.
  • Understand the difference between deferrable and non-deferrable work.
  • Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate effectively with the Care Team.
  • Communicates observations of patient status to professional nurse.
  • Assists other staff members on team within scope of practice.
  • Interacts with co-workers in a manner that promotes team building.
  • Is responsible and accountable for own actions.
  • Adheres to medical center's human resource policies and procedures.
  • Actively participates, practices and promotes continuous quality improvement.
  • Contributes to problem identification and problem solving in work environment, participating in task forces and groups as necessary
  • Supports the mission, vision, critical success factors and goals of Montefiore Medical Center and the standards of care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Reports on and off duty to designated RN team leaders.
