About The Position

Under general supervision, the Server provides prompt and courteous food service to restaurant customers at the Golden Owl Tavern, located inside the UNC Charlotte Marriott Hotel & Conference Center. The role involves taking and serving food and drink orders, attending to guests throughout the dining experience, and delivering knowledgeable, friendly service. The Server also completes opening and closing sidework, maintains cleanliness in restaurant and service areas, handles guest checks and payments, and attends in-person pre-meal and departmental meetings.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent.
At least 3 months of experience in a similar position.
Basic knowledge of customer service principles, food service, and restaurant and kitchen operations.
Knowledge of standard cash-handling procedures.
Fluency in spoken and written English.
Ability to clearly see detailed guest checks, computer printouts, written instructions, and the restaurant in dim lighting.
Manual coordination to operate buttons, grasp items, and balance and carry trays loaded with food and beverages.
Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds, including serving trays, carts, tables, chairs, and small equipment, for up to 75% of the time.
Full range of mobility and ability to travel up to 300 feet regularly throughout the shift.
Ability to stand continuously during preparation, service, or expediting.
Moderate hearing ability to hear customers and supervisors and communicate with staff.
Excellent vision to assess whether products are prepared appropriately.
Moderate comprehension and literacy to read use records and special requests.
Ability to multitask, follow verbal and written instructions, and communicate verbally and in writing.
Strong organization and attention to sound and visual details in crowded, noisy situations while handling multiple tasks.
Tact and understanding when handling varied customer service problems, including stressful and highly emotional situations.

Responsibilities

Greet restaurant customers, take food and drink orders, serve orders, and accommodate special needs or requests.
Remain attentive to customers throughout the dining experience and meet or exceed restaurant service standards.
Complete restocking and cleaning duties, including opening and closing sidework as instructed.
Memorize menu items, recipes, and daily specials to answer questions and make recommendations.
Maintain cleanliness standards in the restaurant, waitstation, and kitchen service area, meeting state and local health board requirements.
Control guest checks according to established procedures and legibly document required information as orders are taken and processed.
Receive guest payments and ensure the accuracy of guest checks and payment methods.
Attend pre-meal and departmental meetings in person to improve communication and learn about products, service, and the facility.
Respond to customer inquiries and comments in person and by phone with timely, knowledgeable information.
Maintain a clean and professional appearance and a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor.
Perform other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by management.
