Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • A current food handlers card and class 13/12 liquor permits must be on file at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Presents menu, answers questions, and makes suggestions regarding food, beverages, and service.
  • Is knowledgeable about the wine list, wines-by-the-glass, liqueur, liquor, ports and cocktails.
  • Writes order on check or memorizes it.
  • Relays order to kitchen and serves courses from kitchen and service bars.
  • Observes guests to respond to any additional requests and to determine when meal has been completed.
  • Completes posted sidework and opening/closing duties.
  • Totals bill in a timely manner and accepts payment.
  • Responsible for knowledge of all menu items.
  • Clears and resets counters or tables at conclusion of each course.
