About The Position

The Server Administrator 4 position has technical strengths and helps with plan review and implementation of IT operations initiatives particularly around the HPC system. This role can serve as a technical leader in a focus area; works with the team to deliver stable, reliable, and flexible systems and services to support primarily engineering and HPC processes; and keeps abreast of new and emerging technologies in order to review and implement strategic initiatives for new or enhanced services as appropriate.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a B.S. degree in Computer Science or other technical degree from a four year accredited college/university is required. Alternatively, an additional 4 years (16 years total) of directly related full-time work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of 12 years of full-time work experience in complex IT environments is required.
  • Direct experience architecting, deploying, and supporting enterprise systems and infrastructure across technology towers (storage, networking, operating systems, and applications).
  • A systems related certification (MCSE, VCAP, RHCE or similar) is required.
  • Expert understanding of Linux operating systems/networking in large high performance high availability environments
  • Experience with Microsoft, at least one virtualization platform, and experience managing enterprise-class ISA server hardware (HPE, Dell, or IBM)
  • Strong networking skills with an understanding of LAN, WAN, firewall, & VPN concepts
  • Experience with enterprise-grade central backup software, VTL, and/or tape libraries
  • Strong understanding of network attached storage (NFS/SMB) and Fibre Channel SAN technology in a multi-path environment
  • Experience managing containers in an enterprise environment
  • Demonstrated excellent technical documentation ability
  • Demonstrated professionalism and skills to present and communicate effectively with internal departments and senior management
  • Familiarity with encryption technologies and implementations
  • Scripting or programming (e.g.: Powershell, Bash, CMD, VBScript, C#, ASP.Net, etc.)
  • Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Nice To Haves

  • Administration of hybrid on-prem/cloud IT infrastructure
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes
  • Proficient with Python and REST APIs
  • Familiar with software development tools (Git, GitHub, Subversion etc…)
  • Experience with automated bare metal provisioning
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible
  • Experience with virtual desktop infrastructure
  • Experience with the Docker engine
  • Experience with multi-master file and database replication systems
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of Linux systems
  • Assist in the design, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of Windows systems related to the HPC environment.
  • Maintain and administer core internal storage, backup, and recovery systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve HPC related issues which may be Linux or Windows based starting points
  • Schedule and coordinate server and storage hardware maintenance windows with support personnel
  • Coordinate application deployment with support personnel and project managers
  • Remote support and on-call hours may be required on a rotational basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The target pay range for this position is $124,400 - $150,138 annually. The full pay range is $111,531 - $174,446 annually.
