Vanderbilt University Public Safety (VUPS) is seeking a Sergeant to provide direct field supervision of police, master police, and security officers. This role involves overseeing routine patrol, directed patrol, community policing, and special event activities. The Sergeant will review and assist officers with incident and accident reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness. They will also prepare routine and special reports, potentially train new officers, and conduct performance evaluations. Key responsibilities include developing Operations Plans for special events and law enforcement activities, serving as a first responder to emergency and non-emergency calls, and engaging in community-oriented policing strategies. The position also involves initial investigations of criminal activity and accidents, crime scene management, interviewing individuals, and making arrests or issuing citations. Additionally, the Sergeant will appear in court or administrative hearings, provide security for special events, and may assume supervisory or command responsibilities during these events. This position has supervisory responsibility over assigned officers and reports to an assigned Lieutenant or higher-ranking officer.
