Senior Wire Harness Design Engineer - Large Platforms

TEKsystems•Newport News, VA
•$140,000 - $170,000•Onsite

About The Position

Design wiring systems for large-platform autonomous marine vessels used in defense and military services. The engineer will architect and independently implement complete wiring systems, making electrical and physical/mechanical design decisions suited to harsh marine environments. The role involves producing and interpreting technical documentation under disciplined configuration control and change management, and communicating design decisions across engineering, program, and manufacturing teams. The work applies aerospace-grade process rigor while addressing diverse product challenges in a fast-moving environment. The position is described as permanent and fully onsite. The posting gives conflicting location information: it first says Austin, Texas, with relocation required for candidates who are not local, while the job details later state Newport News, Virginia.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field is strongly preferred; equivalent experience is considered.
  • Genuine aerospace EWIS architecture experience, ideally spanning two programs.
  • Ability to independently architect and implement a wiring system, including component selection, pin-out definition, and shielding strategy.
  • Hands-on experience with an ECAD tool such as Zuken E3, Siemens Capital, EPLAN, or equivalent; a PLM tool such as Windchill, Arena, or equivalent; and an MCAD tool such as NX, Creo, CATIA, or SolidWorks.
  • Strong technical documentation and configuration control discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at Airbus, Lockheed, BAE Systems, or Boeing.
  • Agriculture equipment industry experience, such as John Deere or Volvo.
  • Experience across genuinely diverse and complex product types.
  • Brief or informal project/team leadership experience.
  • Energy and adaptability in moving from a highly regulated legacy industry into a fast-moving startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and independently implement complete wiring systems for large-platform vessel programs.

  • Produce and interpret complex technical documentation, maintaining configuration control and change management discipline.
  • Communicate design decisions across engineering, program, and manufacturing stakeholders.
  • Apply aerospace-grade process rigor in the engineering environment.
  • Work across varied product challenges rather than a single repeatable platform.
