The individual is responsible for leading the fabrication and assembly of skid-mounted bioprocess systems, including structural frames, sanitary tubing, and mechanical components. This role performs advanced TIG welding and system assembly with minimal supervision and serves as a technical resource to other assembly team members. The position also supports manufacturing operations and facility-related activities as needed while maintaining strict adherence to safety, quality, and GMP standards.

Requirements

  • Diploma or certificate from a 1-year welding program with emphasis on TIG welding.
  • Minimum of 10 years of hands-on welding and mechanical assembly experience, preferably in stainless steel or sanitary systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment with quality standards (GMP experience preferred).
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to shop noise, welding fumes (with appropriate PPE), and standard production floor conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform TIG welding of frames, hangers, and stainless-steel tubing (316 SS).
  • Perform or support orbital welding of sanitary tubing.
  • Polish welds to a #4 sanitary finish as required.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Utilize SolidWorks models to verify dimensions and accurately locate, mount, and inspect components.
  • Fabricate brackets, hangers, and structural modifications as required.
  • Install tubing, pumps, valves, flow meters, and associated components on skid-mounted systems.
  • Lead and support skid assembly activities, including leveling, staging materials from Bills of Materials (BOM), planning builds, and executing subassemblies.
  • Run Polyflow air lines, route electrical cables, and apply system labeling with minimal supervision.
  • Verify fabrication accuracy by comparing vendor drawings to SolidWorks models.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior welders and assembly technicians.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance fabrication efficiency and quality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with 5S and GMP standards.
  • Operate forklifts and overhead cranes safely (training provided).
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and PPE requirements.
  • Prepare completed systems for shipment, including wiping down equipment and completing required prep.
  • Perform cleaning and 5S activities as directed by management or engineering.
  • Support facility or manufacturing-related activities as needed.
