Senior Virtual Propulsion Engineer - Thermal & Hydraulics

General Motors•Warren, MI
•Hybrid

About The Position

This hybrid position is based in Warren, Michigan, and requires the successful candidate to report onsite at least three times per week. The role is part of a highly collaborative team focused on propulsion system models across thermal, hydraulic, lubrication, and ventilation domains. It involves building 1D fluid-dynamics and coarse 3D thermal models that support design development and validation and help eliminate hardware testing. Simulations cover battery cells and packs, drive units, electric motors, power electronics, combustion engines, and transmission-related systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of experience with simulation, design, testing, or release of propulsion-related systems.
  • At least 1 year of experience with GT-SUITE, AMESIM, or similar software.
  • Extensive experience with the principles of vehicle propulsion system design, operation, or testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, with coursework in heat transfer or fluid mechanics.
  • Extensive experience with test-to-model correlation processes, considering variation analysis.
  • Experience with programming or scripting in Python, MATLAB, or similar software.
  • Extensive experience with Siemens NX CAD modeling.
  • Experience in AI/ML methods or agentic workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, build, and exercise analytical system-level models for electrified and conventional propulsion systems using 1D software tools such as GT-SUITE, AMESIM, MATLAB, or Simulink.
  • Integrate plant models from different domains into larger system-level models capable of software-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop co-simulation.
  • Provide component-level and/or system-level design recommendations to Design Responsible Engineers based on analysis results.
  • Own and advance analysis practices and tools to improve prediction fidelity and execution speed.
  • Collaborate with analysis counterparts across global propulsion systems and vehicle engineering VDDV teams.
  • Mentor, train, and lead TCS India colleagues and new team members.
  • Provide technical leadership and resolve problems by leveraging analysis results.
  • Lead efficiency-improvement projects, including developing automation tools using Python or MATLAB.

Benefits

  • Relocation benefits may be available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
  • Well-being support at work and at home.
