About The Position

The Senior Vice President of Campaigns and Advocacy (SVPCA) leads the national and state advocacy strategy and leadership of Reproductive Freedom for All's organizing, electoral, and legislative policy work to promote our mission of advancing reproductive freedom. This role will develop and lead in the execution of Reproductive Freedom for All's comprehensive advocacy and electoral strategy at the national and state levels, with a focus on restoring and expanding the right to abortion nationwide. They will provide strategic leadership and vision to the Organizing & Campaigns and Political & Government Relations departments, ensuring shared goals, coordinated execution, and accountability across all three teams. The SVPCA will be a recognized leader in creating and driving memorable and multi-faceted advocacy and electoral campaigns, experienced in developing high-performing teams, and have a clear vision to grow Reproductive Freedom for All’s organizing power and political profile. The SVPCA will be a collaborative leader, an experienced and thoughtful manager, and a calculated risk taker. The SVPCA will build relationships within the progressive community, and must share a deep commitment to racial and social justice. The SVPCA will serve as a thought partner to the President and CEO and Executive Director. As a member of the executive team, the SVPCA will partner with executive team members to ensure Reproductive Freedom for All achieves its organizational goals, delivers impactful programs and leads in a manner that is consistent with Reproductive Freedom for All’s values.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 12–15 years of progressively senior experience in political campaigns, issue advocacy, grassroots organizing, or electoral strategy, with demonstrated leadership at a comparable level of complexity, scale, and staff management;
  • Proven track record of designing and executing successful multi-faceted advocacy or electoral campaigns at the state and/or national level;
  • At least 8–10 years of experience managing people and leading large, cross-functional teams; demonstrated success in recruiting, developing, and retaining diverse, high-performing staff;
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial justice and equity, with experience integrating an equity lens into campaign strategy, team culture, and organizational practice;
  • Strong understanding of the political, legislative, and electoral landscape as it relates to reproductive rights, health care, or adjacent progressive causes;
  • Experience managing multi-million dollar budgets with a strong record of financial accountability and compliance;
  • Strategic thinker and calculated risk-taker who can set long-term vision while managing near-term execution;
  • Experience with ballot initiative strategy and/or state constitutional amendment campaigns;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience as a public spokesperson and thought leader;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence;
  • Demonstrated acumen in navigating the political landscape;
  • Ability to identify and seize opportunities in a rapidly shifting political environment;
  • Working knowledge of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) nonprofit structures and relevant legal considerations for advocacy and electoral activity;
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to work effectively across departments, with coalition partners, and in federated or networked organizational structures;
  • Deep commitment to Reproductive Freedom for All's mission and values, including diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice;
  • Available and responsive during off-hours for rapid response situations as they arise;
  • Willingness to travel up to 25–30% domestically.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience working on reproductive rights, reproductive health, or health care access campaigns;
  • Familiarity with federal and state election law and independent expenditure compliance;
  • Existing relationships within the progressive political and advocacy community, particularly in the reproductive freedom movement;
  • Experience working closely with state-level affiliate or chapter organizations;
  • Proficiency with data-driven organizing tools and digital campaign programs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Team, contributing to organizational-wide strategy and decision-making in partnership with the President & CEO and Executive Director;
  • Develop and lead in the execution of Reproductive Freedom for All's comprehensive advocacy and electoral strategy at the national and state levels, with a focus on restoring and expanding the right to abortion nationwide;
  • Provide strategic leadership and vision to the Organizing & Campaigns and Political & Government Relations departments, ensuring shared goals, coordinated execution, and accountability across all three teams;
  • Champion a culture of innovation, inclusion, and continuous learning within the campaigns and advocacy departments and across the organization;
  • Demonstrate and model organizational commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in all departmental work, strategic planning, and team culture.
  • Ensure timely design and execution of multi-faceted, member-centered advocacy and electoral campaigns that mobilize Reproductive Freedom for All's 4 million+ members and build long-term organizing power;
  • Lead the development of issue, legislative, and public education campaigns at the federal and state levels, integrating organizing, policy, digital, data, and communications strategies into cohesive "360" efforts;
  • Drive Reproductive Freedom for All's electoral strategy, including candidate support, voter engagement, and independent expenditure work, in coordination with relevant legal and compliance staff;
  • Working across program departments, lead rapid response efforts and the development of accountability campaigns targeting legislators and other actors who work against reproductive freedom;
  • Lead the organization's ballot initiative strategy and provide technical expertise on state constitutional amendment campaigns where relevant;
  • In partnership with the data team, work to continuously improve data-driven program evaluation and testing to ensure campaigns achieve measurable impact.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with elected officials, progressive allies, coalition partners, funders, and movement organizations at the state and national level;
  • Serve as a public-facing spokesperson and thought leader for Reproductive Freedom for All's advocacy and electoral work at conferences, donor events, coalition convenings, and in the media;
  • Represent the organization to the political community, funders, press, and elected officials to advance the mission of Reproductive Freedom for All.
  • Directly supervise the leaders of the Organizing & Campaigns and Political & Government Relations departments, fostering a shared vision, strong cross-departmental collaboration, and collaboration across the organization;
  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing, diverse team; invest in staff growth and create clear pathways for professional development;
  • Manage and resolve conflicts effectively; motivate staff and colleagues across teams to deliver ambitious goals and plans in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment;
  • Ensure the development of training curricula and provide coaching support to state and local organizing staff and volunteer leaders.
  • Partner with the President & CEO, Executive Director and Development team to cultivate and steward major donors and funders in support of campaigns and advocacy programs;
  • Develop compelling program plans, proposals, and memos to build funder support for the organization's work;
  • Lead the development of the annual budgets for the departments within the advocacy and campaigns departments, ensuring sound financial stewardship and compliance with all applicable electoral and nonprofit legal requirements’
  • Identify new funding opportunities and collaborate across the organization to grow resources for campaigns, organizing, and electoral work.
