About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Senior Vehicle Mechanical Engineer with a strong interest and knowledge base in the automotive field for its Vehicle Engineering Practice and Test Engineering Center in Phoenix, AZ. This role involves supporting technical analyses of transportation accidents, mechanical failure evaluations, and assessments of vehicle safety systems (restraints and ADAS) as part of an accident reconstruction and testing team. Responsibilities include fieldwork such as documenting accident sites and vehicles using photogrammetry, 3D scanning, and drone technology, as well as preserving collision data from vehicle electronic modules. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, capable of supporting fieldwork and testing, possess excellent communication skills, and be motivated to advance professionally and grow their consulting practice within Exponent.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • A minimum of 4 years of post-graduation work experience in an OEM, another relevant automotive industry position, or in engineering consulting
  • P.E. license or the willingness to obtain a P.E. license
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
  • Advanced knowledge of dynamics and mechanical design experience in vehicle dynamics and/or crashworthiness preferred
  • Interest in automotive systems such as vehicle communication networks, chassis systems, or Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS)
  • Attention to detail and dedication to quality and accuracy
  • Experience with CAD software, and analytical and simulation tools desired
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clear written communication and technical writing skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to synthesize and present technical information

Responsibilities
