About The Position

Exponent is currently seeking a Data & Cloud Solutions Engineer for its Data Sciences Practice in the Los Angeles, CA office. This role involves assisting Exponent's team in the rapid implementation and iteration of algorithms, analyses, and visualizations to support clients in the consumer electronics, utilities, and life sciences sectors. The position requires delivering highly technical consulting in software development, data engineering, data science, and DevOps, by designing, automating, deploying, and maintaining robust, scalable data solutions. Responsibilities include leading or collaborating on all phases of client engagements, from identifying needs and scoping problems to developing project plans, building analytics solutions, and translating insights into actionable recommendations. The role also involves developing cloud-based architectures, automating deployment pipelines and CI/CD workflows, and implementing best practices in system reliability, monitoring, and security. Additionally, the engineer will advise clients on technical and strategic business solutions, identify new technology-driven opportunities, and support business development by building client relationships and identifying new project opportunities. Creating clear, impactful data visualizations and dashboards, and communicating results to diverse audiences are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. or M.S.) in Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or closely related scientific/technical field
  • Expertise spanning several domains, including: Software development using modern engineering best practices, ideally with hands-on DevOps and/or Agile team leadership experience
  • Data engineering (ETL, workflow/pipeline automation), data science (machine learning, analytics), and DevOps (automation, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, system monitoring)
  • Experience designing, deploying, and maintaining data-intensive applications in cloud or hybrid environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.)
  • Proficiency with at least two of the following: Python, R, C++, SQL, or Linux (RH 7+), plus experience developing across diverse platforms (desktop, web, cloud, or embedded)
  • Experience with visualization/dashboard tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or custom web solutions
  • Strong communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to translate complex technical, scientific, and business concepts for diverse audiences
  • Business acumen and entrepreneurial mindset with a track record of identifying value for clients, framing business plans, and driving business development
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; ability to thrive independently and as a collaborative team member in fast-paced, multidisciplinary settings
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required

Responsibilities

  • Delivering highly technical consulting in software development, data engineering, data science, and DevOps by designing, automating, deploying, and maintaining robust, scalable data solutions to support client business objectives
  • Leading or collaborating on all phases of the client engagement lifecycle, including identifying client needs, framing and scoping business problems, developing project and sprint plans, building and deploying analytics solutions, and translating insights into actionable recommendations
  • Developing cloud-based architectures, automating deployment pipelines and CI/CD workflows, and implementing best practices in system reliability, monitoring, and security
  • Advising clients on both technical and strategic business solutions, identifying new technology-driven opportunities, and helping clients plan scalable, sustainable, and efficient systems
  • Supporting business development by proactively building relationships with clients, identifying new project opportunities, and helping craft and execute business and technical solutions, either independently or collaboratively with firm leadership
  • Creating clear, impactful data visualizations and dashboards, and communicating results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
