About The Position

As a tax staff member in our US Practice, you will required to be a self-starter with the preparation and/or review of US personal tax assignments. You will not only utilize your technical competancies in this role, but you will also draw on your strong interpersonal skills to develop solid working relationships with your team members, as well as our clients. You will play a key role in providing compliance and advisory services to U.S. citizens, Green Card holders, and other cross-border individuals living in Canada and abroad. This position is ideal for a tax professional with strong experience in U.S. individual taxation, expatriate tax compliance, and Canada-U.S. cross-border matters.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in related field and minimum 2 years of public accounting experience in US Personal Tax
  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing U.S. expatriate and cross-border individual tax returns
  • Knowledge of U.S. international information reporting requirements and foreign asset disclosure rules.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, US Tax Preparation Software
  • High aptitude and a willingness to take initiative
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities, interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to client service.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of US CPA is an asset
  • Experience using Go System or iFirm is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review tax returns by demonstrating a thorough understanding of tax concepts and application of tax knowledge as it relates to: U.S. individual income tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1040NR, and related schedules; U.S. international information returns and disclosures; U.S. trust and estate tax returns
  • Liaise with U.S. federal and state tax authorities regarding notices, assessments, and other compliance matters.
  • Conduct tax research at Federal and State levels with intent to analyze US cross-border tax issues.
  • Provide assistance to team members on US tax related matters; pursue/share knowledge to develop professionally.
  • Coordinate files with offshore staff
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and exceptional service. Respond to client inquiries and provide practical solutions to complex tax matters.
  • Stay current with changes in U.S. tax legislation and cross-border tax developments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
