About The Position

The Senior Tax Specialist has a wholistic responsibility to gather tax-related information in order to advise management on the tax impact of various corporate strategies. This requires effectively researching tax topics and communicating with the third party tax preparer/advisor, as well as with the internal financial reporting team. In addition, it’s imperative for this person to report to taxation authorities at the Federal and state levels on a timely basis. This position also holds the responsibility for supporting the team in the execution of tax processes for all BCS Financial Companies, in accordance with current legislation and within pre-established deadlines. In addition, the person in this position must maintain tax information records and assist in the gathering of information for and review of state and Federal tax returns. In addition, this person should review quarterly estimates and process tax payments on a timely basis, and prepare quarterly provisions for the companies. Additionally, this position holds the responsibility of preparing quarterly financials and analytics for a captive insurance company. Also, this position is the audit coordinator for the yearly finance audit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Tax Accounting/Finance or commensurate experience required
  • 2-4 years experience in statutory and GAAP insurance accounting preferred
  • Prior corporate tax experience preferred, with and understanding of book to tax adjustments and maintaining a deferred inventory preferred
  • Basic understanding of insurance company operations required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word required
  • Experience with Excel pivot tables required
  • Experience preparing financial statements required
  • Experience performing complex reconciliation required
  • Exceptional prioritization and time management ability with a sense of urgency required
  • Strong organization and multi-tasking skills required
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy required

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or working toward a CPA designation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tax provisions and disclosures for statutory and GAAP consolidated companies
  • Review Federal and state tax returns and record return to provision adjustments
  • Review quarterly tax estimates and prepare state, Federal and intercompany tax payment requests; maintain reconciliation of tax payments
  • Respond to Federal and state tax notices timely
  • Respond to third party tax advisor and audit requests
  • Understand and document new tax regulations and communicate the impact on corporate business strategies
  • Prepare financial statements and analytics for captive insurance company
  • Coordinate and track audit documentation from various departments and lead audit status meetings
