About The Position

Tokio Marine Canada (TMCan) is seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter/Specialist, Contract Surety Solutions to join their team. This role, reporting to the VP Surety, Western Region, will be instrumental in building and managing the surety business in Western Canada. The position offers the opportunity to work closely with business leaders and peers in a collaborative environment focused on creating the best team of professionals and innovative business solutions.

Requirements

University Bachelor’s Degree, Business or related preferred.
Minimum 4 years of experience in Contract Surety.
The ability to partner with our staff within different lines of business.
A high level of organizational skills and attention to detail.
A proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines, driving for results.
Thought leadership and can innovate solutions quickly.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working closely with others and enjoy an atmosphere of cross-collaboration.
The ability to thrive in a fast paced and changing environment and be comfortable with ambiguity.
Superb customer service skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, and Outlook).

Nice To Haves

Bilingual (English/French) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Evaluate new risks through thorough analysis to determine acceptability and pricing.
Analyze financial statements, capacity, collateral and character of new surety opportunities.
Analyze and review projects, approving within given authority, or recommending approval or denial of surety bonds.
Conduct ongoing review and management of surety portfolio, ensuring accounts are up to date with action items being followed up.
Work with surety team with suggestions for improving systems and processes, with focus on continued efficiencies.
Help assist underwriting efforts across country where needed.
Support marketing, legal and claims services when required.
Build and manage select broker relationships.
Working with surety team in building and implementing broker strategy.
Promoting the Tokio Marine Canada brand, working closely with various business units including ProFin and Commercial Insurance.
Travel to various regions on a regular basis.
Participate in various broker and industry events as required.
