About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer (Design) to join our roadway team in the Ottawa office. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in roadway and transit corridor design, excellent communication, and proven experience delivering detailed engineering projects. This position is primarily focused on roadway and transit corridor geometric design, working closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative, sustainable, and constructible transportation solutions. This team is a part of our Mobility Global Business Area. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering and registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
  • 10+ years of experience in municipal roadway, highway, transit corridor (LRT/BRT), intersection, and active transportation design, including projects for municipal agencies, provincial transportation authorities, or transit agencies.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD, and Civil 3D
  • Working knowledge of transportation planning and traffic engineering software such as Synchro, AutoTURN, and related tools to support roadway design projects
  • Experience applying and interpreting relevant municipal, provincial, and industry standards, including the TAC Geometric Design Guide, Ontario Traffic Manuals, MTO standards, and the Ontario Highway Traffic Act
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple design tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative consulting environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with the City of Ottawa is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with City of Ottawa design standards, complete streets principles, and municipal approval processes is considered an asset
  • Experience delivering projects for the City of Ottawa, MTO, NCC, federal agencies, or transit authorities is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Lead design teams and coordinate the work of intermediate and junior engineers, designers, and CADD staff to ensure quality project delivery and professional development.
  • Deliver functional, preliminary and detailed designs for transportation infrastructure projects, including municipal roads, highways, LRT/BRT corridors, and active transportation facilities.
  • Review engineering drawings and models using tools such as MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), AutoCAD, and Civil 3D, ensuring designs are practical, accurate, aligned with project requirements and following local CADD standards.
  • Prepare and review design documents, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for roadways, intersections, and transit facilities.
  • Coordinate and integrate utility, drainage, and grading designs to support well-coordinated, constructible project outcomes.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards and guidelines, including TAC, Ontario Traffic Manuals, MTO requirements and City of Ottawa design standards.
  • Perform quality checks for technical accuracy and completeness prior to submittal, helping maintain high standards across all deliverables.
  • Support the preparation of tender packages and respond to contractor inquiries during construction.
  • Mentor junior staff in design tasks and technical best practices.
  • Maintain effective communication with clients and stakeholders, participate in client meetings, and support the development of long-term client relationships.
  • Support proposal preparation, technical pursuits, and business development activities, including client relationship management and identifying opportunities within the Ottawa and Eastern Ontario market.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and resources for transportation design assignments while maintaining quality, client satisfaction, and project profitability.
