Senior Transmission Line Engineer 2 - Grid

Sargent & Lundy•Cranberry Township, PA
•Hybrid

About The Position

This position applies and expands transmission line engineering knowledge across conductors, hardware, insulation, structures, foundations, and electrical principles. The engineer designs transmission lines in the 69kV to 500kV range and is responsible for cost analyses, design criteria, and transmission line routing and siting. The role includes conductor selection, shielding, grounding, and induction studies, as well as specifying components with vendors and clients and directing a small project team. The position provides opportunities to work with experienced engineers, mentor less experienced staff, collaborate with a diverse client base and other project teams, develop proposals and cost estimates, and occasionally travel for site visits and client meetings. The role uses a hybrid work arrangement: three days a week in the office and two days working remotely. A relocation package may be available depending on location.

  • Experience with transmission line design incorporating code requirements, cost estimate development, schedule creation and coordination, specifications for procurement of transmission line materials and construction, and liaison with construction and installation.
  • Knowledge of how to verify or review right-of-way requirements, conductor sags and tensions, transmission line plan and profile drawings, and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles used to produce technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Experience writing and providing supporting documentation for engineering calculations.
  • Familiarity with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
