About The Position

The Senior Trading Engineer role sits within a technology department responsible for delivering vessel and freight intelligence and analytics to traders, analysts, and commercial teams. The role is accountable for the technical integrity, scalability, and operational reliability of data-intensive platforms that power ocean transportation and freight analytics. This position acts as a senior technical owner across data ingestion, transformation, analytics, and application layers. It combines deep hands-on contribution (particularly in data pipelines) with architectural leadership, production ownership, and close partnership with analytics and trading stakeholders. The role also actively leverages automation and AI-assisted tooling to improve delivery efficiency, data quality, and operational resilience.

Requirements

Minimum requirement of 4 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 5 years or more of relevant experience.
Strong hands-on experience with SQL, SSIS and ETLs; ability to reason about complex transformations and performance behavior.
Experience with modern cloud data platforms and tooling such as AWS and Snowflake
Proven experience designing and operating automated, production-grade data pipelines
Ability to balance deep technical contribution with architectural leadership and stakeholder partnership.
Strong communication skills with technical and non‑technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

Exposure to AI/ML concepts or practical application of AI‑assisted tools in data engineering or analytics is a strong advantage.
Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse is preferred.
Knowledge of AIS data, shipping, freight, logistics, or commodity trading analytics is preferred.

Responsibilities

Designs and implements robust trading systems, applying appropriate technologies to write clean, efficient and maintainable code, integrating data feeds from external vendors, financial providers and exchanges to process real time data and customizing solutions to align with trading strategies and regulatory requirements.
Prepares data infrastructure to support the efficient storage and retrieval of data.
Develops and maintains streaming and batch data pipelines that facilitate the seamless ingestion of data from various data sources, transform the data into information and move to data stores like data lake, data warehouse and others.
Develops complex data products and solutions using advanced engineering and cloud based technologies, ensuring they are designed and built to be scalable, sustainable and robust.
Implements continuous integration and deployment pipelines to streamline data and trading software releases, automates complex tests to validate software reliability under various market conditions and optimizes workflows by automating repetitive tasks to increase operational efficiency.
Collaborates with traders, analysts, and other cross functional teams to gather requirements and deliver needed solutions, ensuring technical solutions aligned with business goals, participates in agile practices like standups and sprint planning for effective communication, shares knowledge through code reviews to drive learning and best practices, and explains technical concepts clearly to nontechnical team members.
Develops comprehensive test plans, including unit and integration tests, to validate functionality and performance, applying advanced debugging skills to resolve software defects and maintain system integrity, performing complex testing to ensure the system handles high transaction volumes, and collaborating with quality assurance teams members to ensure software meets standards before deployment.
Sustains the commitment to improving system performance, scalability and reliability to ensure systems evolve with changing needs, staying current with industry trends and best in class standards, proactively suggesting improvements to development processes and tools, and integrating users and stakeholders feedback to refine software solutions.
Reviews and builds technical documentation of complex system architecture and development processes, ensuring clear technical guides and operation manuals to facilitate ease of use, maintaining compliance with regulations and policies, and collaborating to build the knowledge base for delivering onboarding and training new team members.
Monitors live trading systems for optimal performance, including addressing complex real time issues promptly, responding quickly to resolve operational problems, minimizing downtime and risk, executing routine maintenance to keep systems secure and efficient, and developing disaster recovery planning to ensure business continuity during system failures or crises.
