Senior Test Hardware Engineer - TeraWave

BLUE ORIGINLos Angeles, CA
$133,500 - $203,263

About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! Blue Origin is pioneering the future of space-based communications with TeraWave, a revolutionary satellite communications network designed to deliver symmetrical data speeds of up to 6 Tbps anywhere on Earth. This multi-orbit constellation will consist of optically interconnected satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) and medium Earth orbit (MEO), providing enterprise-grade connectivity for critical operations worldwide. As part of the Spacecraft Bus Avionics team, you will be responsible for driving requirements, design, analysis, test, and critical review of avionics and assemblies which house electronic components. This role requires expertise and training for the avionics team. You will play a key role in developing the TeraWave Satellite system from concept through formal qualification and verification including integration and flight support activities. Passion for our mission and vision is required. If you’re excited by providing both near term and long-term value, solving novel problems, learning about interesting topics, and completing challenging projects, please apply!

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 7+ years of experience electrical test, avionics integration and test, or vehicle electrical systems verification
  • Demonstrated experience leading electrical test campaigns with flight hardware
  • Hands on experience with electrical test equipment including power supplies, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, data acquisition systems, etc.
  • Hands on experience with RF test equipment such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, attenuators, etc.
  • Experience in specifying and building out electrical ground support equipment
  • Experience developing and executing test procedures from system-level specification and ICD’s
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams and coordinate across disciplines under schedule pressure

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or related field
  • Experience with launch vehicles, spacecraft, or other highly integrated electrical systems
  • Background in electrical test planning
  • Experience integrating with GPS/GNSS simulators and assessing RF link performance in a test environment
  • Experience with automated test framework and scripting for electrical test sequencing and data collection
  • Experience scaling an electrical test program from development to production
  • Background in Design for Testability (DFT) principles and participated in design reviews as a test team representative
  • Previous lead or management experience in a test or integration organization

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the avionics electrical test hardware, test plan, and verification cross-reference matrix for a spaceflight avionics component.
  • Derive electrical test requirements from system specifications, ICD’s, schematics, and safety requirements.
  • Specify and design avionics test equipment to meet manufacturing rate.
  • Coordinate cross functionally with Systems Engineers, Production Engineers, and Design Engineers to define interface test requirements
  • Own hardware test procedure development, review, and approval workflows from initial draft through qualification and acceptance.
  • Lead bench-level, vehicle level and pre-launch electrical test campaigns including power-on, functional verification, end to end harness continuity and EMI/EMC testing
  • Lead anomaly investigation and resolution for electrical test discrepancies; drive root cause analysis and corrective action through closure
  • Partner with manufacturing and production engineering early in the design cycle to ensure test infrastructures integrates seamlessly with production flow, tooling, and vehicle build sequence.
  • Identify and drive test automation, instrumentation, and data acquisition infrastructure to reduce overall cycle time.
  • Design electrical test and support equipment with production scalability in mind, ensuring test architectures support repeatable, high-throughput execution across multiple vehicles.
  • Design electrical test interfaces for producibility, including standardized GSE connectors, modular test racks, etc., to support rate increases without redesign.
  • Drive a production mindset into the electrical test program; track unit-to-unit test time, first pass yield, anomaly rate, as indicators of production readiness.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Stock Options for all regular employees (working at least 20 hours/week)
  • Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
