About The Position

The Senior Technician, Facility Services, HVAC/Refrigeration, leads the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems across commercial and industrial facilities. This role oversees diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system performance and regulatory compliance. The position involves managing refrigerant handling, coordinating field teams, and supporting workforce development through training and mentorship. Additionally, the Senior Technician collaborates with cross-functional teams to implement operational improvements, manages vendor relationships, and participates in on-call rotations to address critical business needs promptly and effectively. The team oversees all HVACR operations within the facility, ensuring equipment functions efficiently and complies with regulatory standards. They coordinate maintenance, repairs, and inspections while following EPA and safety policies. Focused on continuous improvement, the team evaluates new technologies and provides expert guidance. Collaboration and resource management are essential to maintain system reliability and compliance. Members contribute to training initiatives and uphold high-quality standards to support business priorities and customer satisfaction. Their technical expertise and problem-solving skills are vital to sustaining smooth facility operations.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and building pneumatics.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant systems in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and technical guidance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, EPA refrigerant handling protocols, and compliance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes.
  • Effective management of parts inventory, vendor relationships, and service coordination to meet operational priorities.
  • Ability to document work accurately, including detailed notes, photos, and reports.
  • Experience supporting on-call rotations and responding promptly to critical service needs.
  • 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration OR 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
  • Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
  • 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • Completion of a 2-year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate’s of applied science A/C and refrigeration.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Prior work experience with Glycol and C02 systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including refrigeration units and building pneumatics.
  • Lead diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Manage refrigerant handling and compliance with OSHA, EPA, and HVAC/R codes.
  • Coordinate and mentor field teams, providing hands-on training and evaluating skill development.
  • Maintain parts inventory, vendor relationships, and service schedules to meet business priorities.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support critical operational needs outside regular hours.
