About The Position

This position oversees the installation and commissioning of HVAC/R systems, including ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics. The role involves leading diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues across commercial and industrial systems. It also includes implementing and monitoring preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and reduce downtimes. The technician will manage rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units, ensuring optimal performance and compliance. This role requires the use of heavy machinery and the submission of required written and electronic information, such as expense vouchers, weekly summaries, work orders, and maintenance logs. Detailed notes, including before and after photos, must be entered into work orders. The position ensures adherence to OSHA standards and EPA refrigerant handling protocols by supervising field practices and documentation. Inspections and repairs are conducted in accordance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes, including indoor air quality and cold chain requirements. Reclaiming ozone-depleting refrigerants and maintaining compliance with environmental guidelines is also a key responsibility. The Senior Technician leads HVAC/R field teams by coordinating work assignments, mentoring less-experienced Technicians, and managing escalated service issues. They may be assigned a Developmental Technician for on-the-job training, including pickup at designated store locations and hands-on instruction for Technician-level associates. Delivering hands-on training sessions on safety, control troubleshooting, and system operations at various locations is also part of the role. The technician evaluates Technician skill sets and provides feedback to senior leadership to support workforce development. Participation in an on-call rotation is required to support business critical needs outside of standard business hours, involving timely responses to incidents or requests and supporting issue resolution or appropriate escalation. The role involves managing refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships to ensure the timely availability of materials. Tracking and ordering HVAC/R parts, recording purchases and usage, and ensuring contract compliance with external service providers are also key duties. Coordination of service calls and management of regional/market workloads to meet business priorities and timelines are essential. The position supports the implementation of HVAC/R business solutions by identifying operational needs, monitoring progress, and adapting to organizational changes. Leading special projects by collecting data, evaluating new technologies, and recommending improvements is also expected. Collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop and refine processes that meet evolving business demands is crucial. The role includes maintaining company vehicles in accordance with company policies and procedures, coordinating and transporting vehicles for required maintenance, and ensuring alternate driving support is arranged. Safe operation of motor vehicles and ensuring the vehicle has all required documents, checking fuel and water levels, brake condition, signals, and lights are also responsibilities. Submission of maintenance invoices for payment and verification of vehicle insurance coverage and validity are required. Wearing the company uniform and badge in accordance with company policies and procedures is mandatory. Requirements

  • Option 1: 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration.
  • Option 2: 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
  • Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
  • Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
  • 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
  • Ability to read and speak the English language as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years.
  • Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
  • Completion of a 2-year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate’s of applied science A/C and refrigeration.
  • Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
  • Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Prior work experience with Glycol and C02 systems.
