About The Position

Naval Power Systems in Menomonee Falls, WI is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Senior Technical Writer to help transform complex engineering and product information into clear, accurate, mission-ready documentation. In this role, you will support advanced naval and defense programs by creating the technical content that enables customers, operators, maintainers, and internal teams to use and sustain critical power and energy systems with confidence. This is an opportunity to work alongside engineers, program teams, and subject-matter experts on technologies that support the reliability, readiness, and performance of U.S. Navy platforms.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Technical Communication or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Experience developing technical documentation in an engineering, manufacturing, industrial, aerospace, defense, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Strong ability to interpret technical source material, including specifications, engineering drawings, bills of material, test procedures, and product data.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, research, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deliverables, prioritize effectively, and meet program deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and document-control or configuration-management systems.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with structured authoring, XML, Adobe Acrobat, CAD-viewing tools, or technical illustration tools is a plus.
  • Familiarity with military standards, data-item descriptions, or defense technical-manual requirements is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, revise, and maintain technical manuals, operating procedures, maintenance instructions, installation guides, test documentation, and training materials.
  • Translate complex engineering concepts, drawings, specifications, and test results into concise, user-focused documentation.
  • Partner closely with engineers, quality, manufacturing, logistics, program management, and other subject-matter experts to gather and validate technical information.
  • Ensure documentation meets customer, contractual, configuration-management, and applicable military or industry standards.
  • Organize and manage documentation throughout the product lifecycle, from development and qualification through production and sustainment.
  • Create supporting visual content, including tables, diagrams, illustrations, and workflow graphics, in coordination with technical teams.
  • Review documents for technical accuracy, consistency, clarity, grammar, and usability.
  • Help drive continuous improvement in documentation processes, templates, and content standards.
