Sr Technical Program Manager

Motive•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Motive empowers people who run physical operations with tools to make work safer, more productive, and more profitable. Its platform brings together safety, operations, and finance capabilities for managing drivers, vehicles, equipment, and fleet-related spending, using AI to improve visibility and automate tasks. Motive serves nearly 100,000 customers across industries ranging from transportation and logistics to the public sector. The Equipment Monitoring (EM) team owns Motive’s connected-asset product line, including asset gateways, beacons, and environmental and door sensors. The team is responsible for the end-to-end customer experience, from devices through cloud, web, and mobile software. As the Cloud Software Technical Program Manager for Equipment Monitoring, you will own delivery of EM programs across backend, frontend, and mobile cloud software, from quarterly planning and sprint execution through customer launch and adoption. You will bring embedded, IoT, backend, and frontend work together in cohesive plans with clear owners, milestones, and dependencies. You will be accountable for customer deliverables, release readiness, and measurable program outcomes. For programs involving hardware, firmware, or embedded work, you will coordinate with the hardware organization’s TPM and embedded counterparts on dependencies, timelines, and readiness, and drive the overall plan through launch.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of technical program management experience, with technical fluency to engage credibly with engineers on architecture, tradeoffs, and delivery risks.
  • A proven track record leading large, ambiguous, multi-team cloud software programs across backend, web, and mobile, with significant dependencies and measurable customer or business impact.
  • Bias for action and root-cause problem solving rather than administrative tracking.
  • Strong organization and communication skills, including the ability to lead and coach without authority across distributed teams and translate technical details into clear leadership updates.
  • Ability to define and track quality and delivery metrics, such as escaped defects, reliability, predictability, and customer feedback, and turn data into an action plan.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, changing environment and building processes where little exists.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, or similar tools; strong knowledge of agile methods; and experience using automation, including AI tools, to keep programs visible without adding manual overhead for engineers.
  • Authorization to receive and access commodities and technologies controlled under U.S. Export Administration Regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree or equivalent experience is recommended.
  • Exposure to connected-device or IoT products, including firmware release cycles, device qualification, or OTA updates.
  • CSM or PMP certification.

Responsibilities

  • Translate quarterly and half-year roadmaps into detailed cloud software project plans with milestones, owners, measurable customer and business outcomes, and risks.
  • Track cross-team dependencies across embedded, hardware, IoT/Platform, Product Ops, PMM, Design, and Support; coordinate with the hardware organization TPM on devices and international rollouts.
  • Own program delivery from kickoff through customer launch and adoption, tracking concurrent programs, surfacing risks and tradeoffs, and driving stakeholder and leadership decisions to keep delivery on track.
  • Use customer feedback and support signals to improve programs after launch.
  • Maintain a single source of truth for program status, provide weekly updates, and report program health, risks, and outcomes in monthly and quarterly business reviews, translating technical details into business impact.
  • Facilitate sprint planning, backlog grooming, retrospectives, and demos for EM cloud engineering, and lead release-readiness checkpoints.
  • Run intake and triage for ad-hoc requests, address recurring execution gaps with durable solutions, and lead quarterly and project-level retrospectives.
