Senior Technical Program Manager

Microsoft•,
•$119,800 - $261,000

About The Position

As a Senior Technical Program Manager in Azure Networking, you will lead the introduction of a next-generation Ethernet platform for regional networking at Microsoft scale. The work spans requirements and regional network design, interoperability validation, workload testing, operational readiness, and staged production deployments. You will independently drive the program, bringing clarity to ambiguous needs and aligning engineering and operations on priorities, tradeoffs, and delivery. The role involves shaping regional network architecture and making workload-driven platform decisions. You will collaborate with engineers, architects, operations teams, vendors, and other partners, drawing on networking technologies and approaches including SONiC, high-bandwidth networks for Fairwater-class datacenters, RDMA, and MRC. The goal is to deliver reliable, high-performance networks that support AI training and inference at Microsoft scale. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Employees are expected to bring a growth mindset, innovate, collaborate, and uphold the values of respect, integrity, and accountability in an inclusive culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development, or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 1+ year of experience reading and/or writing code, such as sample documentation or product demos.
  • 1+ year of experience with datacenter networking or AI infrastructure, including topology design, high-performance Ethernet, distributed workloads, or transport technologies such as RDMA.
  • 1+ year of experience bringing hardware and software together through prototyping, interoperability testing, staged deployment, and production operations.
  • 1+ year of experience independently leading complex cross-team programs, building trust across engineering, operations, and external partners, and influencing delivery without direct authority.

Responsibilities

  • Independently drive the next-generation Ethernet program for regional networking, translating ambiguous needs into clear requirements and execution plans, setting priorities, resolving dependencies, and owning delivery and readiness outcomes.
  • Shape regional network designs and topologies with architects, balancing performance, latency, resiliency, failure domains, capacity, scalability, and cost for regional training and inference workloads.
  • Work with engineers and vendors to develop network designs and products, resolving interdependencies across network switches, host NICs, Ethernet fabrics, transport, network management software, and network operations.
  • Lead interoperability validation and representative workload testing with engineering; evaluate RDMA and emerging MRC capabilities where appropriate, using congestion, path diversity, failure recovery, and accelerator utilization to assess readiness.
  • Plan staged production deployments that safely coexist with the existing fleet, using compatibility validation, failure injection, limited canaries, telemetry-based release criteria, and rehearsed rollback to manage risk.
  • Agree on operational-readiness criteria with operations teams, including support ownership, monitoring, runbooks, capacity, and incident response before each production stage.
  • Align engineering, operations, and partners through influence; make evidence-based tradeoffs, resolve competing priorities, and use reliability, performance, adoption, and recovery metrics to improve post-launch outcomes.
