About The Position

The Senior Technical Program Manager plans and executes medium-complexity technical programs that span technical teams and domains. The role works closely with Product Managers and other stakeholders to coordinate delivery across cross-functional teams, manage resources, and support successful outcomes. It ensures non-functional requirements—including reliability, scalability, and security—are documented, incorporated into plans, tracked, and executed. The role also supports vendor coordination and management, assesses program needs, and collaborates on improvement opportunities. The ideal candidate has a deep technical background, strong program management skills, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams toward common business goals. This position is remote-first, subject to Symetra’s internet connection requirements. Flexible full-time or hybrid telecommuting arrangements are offered.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in technical program management or a similar role, with a proven track record of delivering large-scale programs.
  • Strong technical background with knowledge of software development and/or relevant technical domains.
  • Proficiency with project management methodologies and tools.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions in complex environments.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States at hire and maintain authorization throughout employment; employer work visa sponsorship and support are not provided.
  • Must meet Symetra’s remote internet requirements: at least 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload via fiber, cable, or DSL; satellite, cellular broadband, other wireless technology, and wired dial-up are not permitted.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end planning and execution of cross-functional technical programs, from initial concept through delivery.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, including product managers, engineering teams, and executive leadership.
  • Develop and maintain program roadmaps, scope, timelines, and deliverables; ensure alignment with business objectives and adapt to evolving requirements.
  • Monitor program health, identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and implement corrective actions.
  • Partner with Procurement to negotiate vendor contracts, review risks, and assist with vendor coordination and management.
  • Work with teams to clarify goals and deliverables and bring data into planning and prioritization.
  • Identify and manage cross-team dependencies, facilitate alignment, and ensure integration of deliverables.
  • Coordinate post-launch activities, monitor adoption, collect feedback, and drive follow-up actions to enhance outcomes.
  • Work with the Product team to identify KPIs and success metrics, collect and analyze data, and make information visible to stakeholders.
  • Guide and mentor other program managers, promote best practices, and drive process improvements.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives, promotes equity, and reflects Symetra’s commitment to belonging.
