About The Position

As Hardware Product Manager – Cryogenic Systems & Controls at VEIR, you will own the product strategy, development, and lifecycle for VEIR’s cryogenic systems and associated control architectures, from early concept through commercialization. This role is deeply focused on complex, tightly integrated hardware–software systems, spanning cryogenic cooling hardware, sensors, controls, instrumentation, and system-level performance. You will act as the single-threaded owner for this product area, translating system-level requirements, including thermal performance, reliability, operability, and safety, into clear technical specifications and prioritized product roadmaps. You’ll work closely with cryogenics, mechanical, electrical, controls, software, manufacturing, quality, and commercial teams to ensure systems are designed for performance, scalability, and real-world deployment. This is an ideal role for a product manager who wants to operate close to the physics, embedded with engineering teams, and accountable for delivering first-of-their-kind cryogenic systems that underpin VEIR’s core technology.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (mechanical, electrical, controls, systems, or related field preferred; advanced degree a plus).
  • 5-7 years of product management experience, ideally with complex hardware systems, industrial equipment, or tightly coupled hardware–software products.
  • Direct experience managing NPI lifecycles for system-level hardware, from early architecture through deployment.
  • Strong familiarity with cryogenic systems, thermal systems, industrial cooling, or complex fluid-based hardware (direct experience strongly preferred).
  • Experience working with control systems, instrumentation, sensors, PLCs, or industrial automation architectures.
  • Comfort translating system behavior and failure modes into clear product requirements and design priorities.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including cryogenics, mechanical, electrical, controls, and software.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-ambiguity environments with evolving requirements and technical uncertainty.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex system behavior into clear business and operational value.
  • A product mindset that balances performance, reliability, safety, and scalability.
  • High ownership, attention to detail, and a proactive, systems-oriented problem-solving approach.
  • Alignment with VEIR’s mission, values, and commitment to building transformative energy infrastructure.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with liquid cooling hardware is a strong nice to have.

Responsibilities

  • Ramp up on VEIR’s cryogenic system architecture, including cooling loops, thermal interfaces, instrumentation, control logic, fault handling, and operational modes.
  • Develop a strong understanding of system requirements and constraints, including temperature stability, redundancy, uptime, safety, and maintainability.
  • Partner with engineering to understand current designs, open technical risks, and system-level tradeoffs.
  • Conduct voice-of-customer (VoC) discovery with internal stakeholders, pilot customers, and field teams to understand operational needs and failure modes.
  • Create product strategy and system definition documents outlining use cases, performance requirements, interfaces, cost targets, and deployment assumptions.
  • Own system-level product requirements for cryogenic hardware and controls, translating customer, operational, and regulatory needs into clear specifications.
  • Lead NPI stage-gate execution for cryogenic systems and controls, ensuring alignment from concept through prototype, validation, and pilot readiness.
  • Partner closely with controls, software, and hardware engineering teams to define control strategies, sensor requirements, alarms, interlocks, and operational workflows.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain to ensure systems are designed for buildability, repeatability, and serviceability.
  • Serve as the product subject-matter expert supporting applications, field deployment, and early customer pilots.
  • Define and execute the product roadmap for VEIR’s cryogenic systems and controls, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform evolution.
  • Successfully drive one or more cryogenic system configurations through pilot deployment or launch, meeting performance, reliability, and safety targets.
  • Develop technical and operational collateral, including system specifications, control philosophy documentation, and operational guides.
  • Clearly articulate value propositions and differentiation for VEIR’s cryogenic approach relative to alternative cooling solutions.
  • Act as the cross-functional product leader, aligning cryogenics, controls, software, manufacturing, quality, and commercial teams.
  • Support deployments as the system-level product owner, guiding configuration decisions, operational tuning, and future roadmap direction.
