Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is seeking Senior Systems Project Engineers to lead engineering projects involving advanced laser, optomechanical, electromechanical, and high-power systems. The role provides technical leadership and subject matter expertise in designing, developing, and deploying systems and components for scientific, defense, and industrial applications. Projects may involve systems engineering, computational simulation, precision design, advanced manufacturing, prototype development, and testing. The position is in the Laser Systems Engineering & Operations Division within the Engineering Directorate, supporting National Ignition Facility and Photon Science / Light Matter and Fusion projects. It requires full-time on-site presence. The hire may be placed at either level, based on knowledge and related experience; additional responsibilities apply at the SES.4 level. At the base level, the engineer works independently with minimal direction, leads and guides technical teams, addresses complex engineering challenges, manages schedules and budgets, and oversees project execution. The engineer also mentors team members, communicates technical work to stakeholders and management, and ensures deliverable quality. At SES.4, the engineer works under consultative direction with substantial authority, sets project vision and strategy, influences technical direction, develops capabilities through partnerships and resources, and collaborates with sponsors, customers, and industry partners to achieve long-term project goals.
