About The Position

Peraton is seeking a highly skilled Systems Integration Engineer in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to support the Front Range Operations and Sustainment Team (FROST) program. The role supports spacecraft and ground-system integration with multiple mission systems and serves as a primary point of contact for internal and external customers. Integration activities include requirements identification, launch and early orbit, vehicle disposal, concept of operations (CONOPS) development, mission analysis, and on-console operations. The engineer provides expertise on engineering subsystems and helps shape planning and operational approaches. The position involves leading spacecraft and ground-system integration, ensuring on-orbit command and control, and coordinating with government personnel, SETAs, program offices, contractors, and spacecraft and launch-vehicle manufacturers. The engineer develops operational procedures for 24/7 crews and maintains certification as a ground-systems operations controller to provide surge and on-console support for critical test, launch, and on-orbit events. Occasional abnormal hours and travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of experience with a BS/BA, 6 years with an MS/MA, or 3 years with a PhD.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with an active polygraph adjudicated within the last ten years.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and provide proof of citizenship.
  • Must be able to maintain the ability to access a government worksite.
  • Robust knowledge of spacecraft flight operations and ground systems used for command and control.
  • Knowledge of systems-engineering processes, system verification, validation and test (VV&T), and requirements interpretation.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including explaining technical concepts in briefings and working groups and tailoring communication to different audiences.
  • Ability to multitask independently in a demanding, deadline-driven environment.
  • Self-motivated and able to complete tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to maintain crew certification as a ground-systems operations controller.
  • Ability to occasionally work abnormal hours to support critical events.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to factory, government, and launch locations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ground systems, spacecraft command and control, and satellite communication (SATCOM) theories and methodologies.
  • Experience with collaborative task-management tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Experience executing systems-engineering processes and participating in system verification, validation, and test (VV&T) activities.
  • Experience with spacecraft flight operations and/or spacecraft ground-systems operations.
  • Experience translating customer needs into system requirements.
  • Working knowledge of orbital mechanics.
  • Ground Systems Engineering or Spacecraft Vehicle Engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead spacecraft and ground-system integration activities, ensuring on-orbit command and control.
  • Troubleshoot ground-system issues and document issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluate, refine, integrate, and validate program requirements; determine CONOPS; and ensure systems and operational techniques meet program needs.
  • Advocate for operational requirements with systems engineering and ensure engineering implementations meet operational needs.
  • Prioritize engineering requirements and ensure staged implementation of solutions meets program timelines.
  • Provide satellite-operations expertise to engineering, development, integration, and strategic initiatives.
  • Plan, prepare, execute, and evaluate satellite and launch-vehicle rehearsals, exercises, and compatibility tests.
  • Prepare and review operational, anomaly, contingency, and training support procedures.
  • Perform mission-planner or mission-analyst operations for pre-pass planning and scheduling.
  • Develop day-of-launch, on-orbit, and disposal CONOPS for assigned spacecraft missions.
  • Operate ground systems in support of testing and real-time operations during acquisition, launch, early orbit, on-orbit, and disposal flight phases.
  • Review operational data, historical files, and logs to investigate operational issues.
  • Lead discussions and work with government personnel, SETAs, program offices, contractors, and spacecraft and launch-vehicle manufacturers.
  • Interface with systems engineering, software engineering, cyber, IT, and launch personnel to ensure requirements are met.
  • Develop operational procedures for 24/7 operations crews.
  • Identify, track, record, report, and achieve programming milestones.
  • Achieve and maintain certification as a ground-systems operations controller, including providing surge and on-console support for critical test, launch, and on-orbit events.
