About The Position

That's No Moon is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to help bring a AAA title across the finish line. The role focuses on profiling, diagnosing, and optimizing performance and memory on current-generation console platforms while maintaining foundational systems such as level loading and streaming. The engineer will help meet frame-time, memory, and load-time targets ahead of certification and launch, and support console performance, memory, and stability requirements. The position works closely with engineering leadership and other disciplines to prioritize stabilization and optimization work, assess dependencies and risks, and balance performance, quality, and production constraints. It also involves developing and maintaining production-quality C/C++ systems, features, tools, and workflows, and documenting profiling workflows, performance budgets, and optimization findings. The role may be eligible for incentive compensation, including equity and profit share, in addition to base pay. The estimated U.S. base pay range is $160,900–$186,744.

Requirements

  • Shipped at least one AAA game.
  • Hands-on experience with current-generation consoles, specifically PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
  • Strong knowledge of C++, including performance-oriented programming, memory layout, cache behavior, and multithreading.
  • Proven experience profiling and optimizing CPU, GPU, and memory performance using tools such as Unreal Insights, PIX, Razor, or equivalent platform tools.
  • Experience with console memory management, asset streaming, and load-time optimization.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Good visual, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Calm, pragmatic decision-making under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts.

Nice To Haves

  • Unreal Engine experience, ideally UE5.
  • Experience with console certification and submission processes.

Responsibilities

  • Profile and optimize CPU, memory, and I/O performance on console platforms to meet frame-time, memory, and load-time targets ahead of certification and launch.
  • Diagnose hitches, streaming stalls, and memory pressure using platform and engine profiling tools, and address root causes.
  • Help maintain core systems such as level loading and streaming, ensuring they perform within console hardware constraints.
  • Break down optimization and stabilization work, assess dependencies and risk, and prioritize work by impact with production and engineering leadership.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other disciplines to develop solutions that protect quality and performance.
  • Architect, implement, and maintain production-quality C/C++ for systems, features, tools, and workflows.
  • Support console certification and platform requirements related to performance, memory, and stability.
  • Analyze approaches to problems and discuss tradeoffs among performance, quality, and risk late in production.
  • Write and maintain documentation on profiling workflows, performance budgets, and optimization findings.
