Leonardo DRS, Inc.•Germantown, MD
•$107,089 - $144,570•Onsite

About The Position

DRS RADA Technologies, a subsidiary of Leonardo DRS, develops proprietary radar solutions and legacy avionics systems for the global defense industry. The Senior Systems Engineer will advance the company’s systems engineering capabilities in the United States, serve as the primary interface between systems engineering and software engineering, and manage product software configurations. The work combines systems engineering and configuration management, including developing and improving software product interfaces and managing product requirements. This is a full-time, on-site position in Germantown, Maryland. It is not a software development role: software requirements and systems configurations are managed by this position, while software implementation is performed by the software team. The engineer will work independently and lead assigned technical work while collaborating with cross-functional teams on reliable systems for demanding defense environments. U.S. citizenship is required, as is an active DoD security clearance or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable time after employment begins.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field.
  • At least five years of relevant systems engineering experience.
  • Experience with version control tools such as Git.
  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills in integrated or system-level software environments.
  • Ability to own technical work independently and collaborate effectively across software, systems, hardware, integration, and test teams.
  • Broad systems engineering experience, including requirements management; functional requirements parsing, derivation, and allocation; systems design and integration; technical risk identification and management; and Verification and Validation principles.
  • Experience developing systems engineering artifacts such as specifications, Interface Control Documents, Use Cases, System Architecture Descriptions, and Trade Studies.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Active DoD security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one; the posting states the clearance must be obtained within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Define user needs, functional and product architectures, and product requirements.
  • Use Model-Based Systems Engineering tools, such as Cameo Enterprise Architecture, to capture systems engineering artifacts.
  • Maintain and track system-level and product-level configurations to ensure compatibility between radar-system components.
  • Independently evaluate, test, and verify software products against requirements, and document results.
  • Collaborate with software, systems, hardware, integration, and test teams to understand system behavior and deliver working solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, configuration management, documentation, and engineering process improvements.
  • Lead assigned technical work, communicate technical risks and tradeoffs, and provide guidance to other engineers as needed.
  • Identify, develop, and improve interfaces for RADA software products and manage their requirements.
