Senior Systems Engineer (C++/Python)

NBCUniversal•New York, NY

About The Position

NBCUniversal is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to build software in C++ for machine-learning, computer-vision, and 3D-modeling applications. The work uses mathematical techniques to analyze images and create realistic 3D models from real-world data, applying research in artificial intelligence, computer vision, and computer graphics. The engineer will develop and test code on a cloud platform using large-scale geospatial data, ultimately producing 3D content for users. The role involves interacting with remote machines through a Unix shell and collaborating with leadership to understand product vision and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience in a fast-paced, high-growth technology environment.
  • Experience designing and building high-performance, efficient systems using C++, including optimizing for speed, scalability, and resource management.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented approach and willingness to learn new methods, tools, practices, and skills.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Confidence working in a Unix shell environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with modern C++.
  • Mathematical background in some subset of linear algebra, probability, and geometry.
  • Experience with Git; experience with Mercurial or other distributed version-control systems is an acceptable substitute.
  • Experience in game technology, including Unreal Engine, C++, computational geometry, or computer graphics.
  • Ability to self-support in a preferred development environment other than vim/make or Xcode, demonstrated convincingly.

Responsibilities

  • Implement core machine-learning, computer-vision, and inverse procedural-modeling algorithms in C++, with varying levels of oversight.
  • Apply research in machine learning, computer vision, and computer graphics.
  • Work with leadership to understand high-level product vision and customer requirements.
  • Use Git for source-code management.
  • Deploy and test code on large-scale geospatial datasets, generating 3D content for users.
  • Interact with remote machines through a Unix shell.
