Software Engineer Principal (C#/Java/Python)

PNC•Pittsburgh, PA
•Onsite

About The Position

At PNC, employees work together to deliver the best experience for customers in an inclusive workplace. The Software Engineer Principal is part of PNC's Technology organization and Developer Tools Team (DTT), based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The team improves the technologies, tools, and engineering experiences used by developers across the organization. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on modernizing the developer ecosystem, reducing friction, and improving developer productivity. The role expands the team's technical capacity across developer tooling and experience. It helps improve how core technologies—including C#, Java, Python, and Node.js—and their frameworks, packages, tools, plugins, and extensions are evaluated, approved, packaged, distributed, upgraded, and supported. It also evaluates major releases and emerging capabilities and helps establish sustainable paths for enterprise adoption. The Principal Engineer contributes to broader developer experience initiatives such as reference architectures, Inner Source, developer feedback, AI-assisted development, automation, and productivity tooling. Working with team leadership and developer communities, the engineer turns developer needs and opportunities into practical solutions, provides technical leadership and guidance, and helps teams solve complex engineering and business problems. PNC is an in-office company and encourages candidates to discuss workplace expectations with their recruiter and hiring manager. PNC will not provide employment visa sponsorship or participate in STEM OPT for this position.
