Senior Systems Architect

Echodyne Corp•Kirkland, WA
•$137,196 - $205,382

About The Position

Echodyne is seeking a Senior Systems Architect for its Advanced Technology Development team. The role defines system architectures for rapid radar prototypes and critical technologies, guides cross-disciplinary technical decisions, and connects sensing, calibration, compute, power, packaging, software, test, and field-demonstration needs into a coherent system approach. The work focuses on prototype and advanced technology development, with meaningful ownership and a direct role in shaping future radar products. The architect translates mission needs, product goals, customer use cases, operating environments, research inputs, and business constraints into system objectives, requirements, architectures, interfaces, and technical budgets. The role leads trade studies, plans experiments and integration, establishes verification evidence to reduce technical risks, and maintains architecture baselines and system information. Prototype results are converted into architecture decisions, reusable guidance, and transition packages for product-development teams. This is an exempt role. Echodyne states an expected annual salary range of $137,196–$205,382 USD. The company offers competitive compensation and benefits to full-time, US-based employees. The role requires eligibility to handle export-controlled technical data, including ITAR- and EAR-controlled information; the company evaluates eligibility or required government authorizations during the application process.

Requirements

  • Experience developing system architectures for complex hardware and software products, embedded systems, radar systems, sensing products, aerospace systems, or defense technology.
  • Ability to translate mission needs, customer use cases, and operating environments into system requirements, architectures, interfaces, technical budgets, and verification intent.
  • Experience defining and managing performance budgets, error budgets, design margins, assumptions, interfaces, and technical baselines.
  • Experience leading cross-disciplinary trade studies and resolving decisions across RF, electrical, digital, mechanical, software or firmware, test, manufacturing, quality, and supplier constraints.
  • Experience planning prototypes, experiments, integration events, and verification activities that connect technical risk to objective evidence.
  • Ability to communicate complex system decisions, risks, and recommendations clearly to engineering and business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor of Science in Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, and at least 8 years of relevant systems engineering or architecture experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Eligibility to handle export-controlled technical data, including ITAR- and EAR-controlled information, or obtain required government authorizations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in advanced technology development, pathfinding, applied research, rapid prototyping, or technology readiness maturation.
  • Experience with radar, phased arrays, RF systems, signal processing, advanced sensing, autonomy, or other high-reliability and mission-critical products.
  • Experience with radar calibration, high-speed data interfaces, compute architectures, high-power subsystems, tiled apertures, or compact electronics packaging.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or equivalent tools for system analysis, budgets, modeling, test-data evaluation, or trade studies.
  • Familiarity with reliability, safety, EMI and EMC, environmental qualification, cybersecurity, design for manufacturing and assembly, supportability, and product assurance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mission needs, concepts of operation, success criteria, and system objectives for radar prototypes and future Advanced Technology Development efforts.
  • Translate product goals, use cases, operating environments, research inputs, and business constraints into functional, logical, and physical architectures, requirements, interfaces, and technical budgets.
  • Lead trade studies across radar performance, RF and digital architecture, compute, calibration, power, thermal, mechanical packaging, software, test, cost, schedule, and manufacturability.
  • Define prototype experiments, integration plans, and verification evidence to retire high-impact technical risks before formal product development.
  • Maintain architecture baselines, assumptions, interfaces, margins, decisions, risks, and configuration-sensitive system information.
  • Collaborate with Product, Research, RF, electrical, FPGA, software, mechanical, PCB, test, manufacturing, suppliers, and other stakeholders to deliver mission-critical solutions.
  • Turn prototype results into architecture decisions, reusable system guidance, and transition packages for product-development teams.
