About The Position

The Digital Modernization Sector of Leidos has an opportunity for a Senior Systems Administrator to support efforts for the Naval Enterprise Network (NEN) OCONUS portion of the NGEN-R Service Management, Integration, and Transport (SMIT) contract located in Yokosuka, Japan. NGEN-R SMIT is the largest IT services program for the Navy, delivering the Naval Enterprise Network (NEN); inclusive of cybersecurity services, network operations, service desk, and data transport. Ultimately, Leidos supports the Navy in unifying its shore-based networks and data management to improve capability and service while also saving significant dollars by focusing efforts on one enterprise network. This position is responsible for operating and maintaining NEN OCONUS server and network infrastructure. This includes responding appropriately to alerts and events and responding to incidents from triage through resolution, including escalations, where appropriate; conducting infrastructure repairs, including directing remote activities to maintain operational effectiveness for services; providing root cause analysis documentation in accordance with Government procedures, and documenting daily shift activities in appropriate reporting and ticketing tools and ensure proper pass down of any outstanding issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 4–8 years of previous experience (in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or related field). Information Technology field working as a Systems Administrator in a Microsoft Server environment.
  • An additional 4 years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Minimum DoD 8570 IAT Level II (CompTIA Security+, CCNA Security, etc.).
  • Possess at least one OS certification (MCSA, MCSE, Microsoft Endpoint Admin Associate, Microsoft Azure Admin Associate, Network+, MDAA, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Top Secret Clearance.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level III (CompTIA SecurityX, Casp+).
  • 10 years of previous experience in the Information Technology field.
  • Although not required for the position, additional experience and certifications in network administration (CCNA/CCNP).
  • Multi-Language Proficiency: Familiarity or capability with additional scripting, programming, or database languages, including Bash, Transact-SQL (T-SQL), or Kusto Query Language (KQL).
  • Low-Code & Business Intelligence: Experience building, managing, and maintaining enterprise workflows and reporting dashboards using Microsoft Power Automate and Power BI.
  • Linux Systems Certification: Holding a relevant Linux certification, such as CompTIA Linux+, Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), or Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC).
  • Database & SQL Certification/Training: Completed training or certification in database programming or SQL querying, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300), Oracle Database SQL Certified Associate, or equivalent structured coursework.
  • Proof of Programming & Development: Demonstrated evidence of programming capabilities, such as a code portfolio (e.g., GitHub, GitLab), custom developer-focused utilities, or developer certifications (e.g., Azure Developer Associate).

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain NEN OCONUS server and network infrastructure.
  • Respond appropriately to alerts and events.
  • Respond to incidents from triage through resolution, including escalations, where appropriate.
  • Conduct infrastructure repairs, including directing remote activities to maintain operational effectiveness for services.
  • Provide root cause analysis documentation in accordance with Government procedures.
  • Document daily shift activities in appropriate reporting and ticketing tools and ensure proper pass down of any outstanding issues.
  • Design and author unique scripts from scratch to automate repeatable actions, as well as troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize existing script repositories.
  • Administer, configure, and manage Virtual Machines in VMware or Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisors.
  • Manage and maintain File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) and enterprise file systems.
  • Extract and synthesize data from Active Directory, SQL, and Microsoft Configuration Manager (MCM) databases, utilizing PowerShell, SQL, and general CSV manipulation for system forensics and data analysis.
  • Remotely manage distributed servers, switches, and workstations within each local site by a central location where possible.
  • Coordinate all maintenance and restoration activities of remote servers with the TNOSC and LNSC leadership.
  • Coordinate across all NEN OCONUS regions on operational initiatives that require cross-regional tasking.
  • Respond to all escalated service requests and trouble tickets delivered through the Service Desk.
  • Ensure the escalation of incidents and problems are assigned to the appropriate Tier.
  • Maintain records of daily activities, problems remedial actions taken, and/or installation activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures through manual configuration, installation of patches, or the application of scripts to protect data, software, and hardware.
  • Mitigate vulnerability security findings on workstations and servers and coordinate the resolution between security and local on-site teams.
  • Create and distribute MCM collections for workstations and servers.
  • Troubleshoot server and workstation failures related to software deployments, and Windows operating system updates.
  • Maintain all servers within the configuration baselines and all STIGs, and accurately configure and apply patches to all systems.
  • Pilot software deployment, diagnose errors, and provide findings to engineering teams.
  • Participate in technical exchanges as required.
  • Provide technical and operational input to Regional Change Review activities.
  • Review existing documentation for the server, services, data storage operations, and maintenance processes and procedures, and provide recommendations for improvements/changes.
  • Assist network and systems security personnel in IA incident response, including close coordination with the Theater IAM for all IA-related tasks.
