We work directly with 20+ municipalities and 50+ jurisdictions, operate highly regulated facilities in 10+ locations, and have 1,000+ employees. We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Senior Systems Administrator to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 2540 North First Street, Suite 300 San Jose, CA and limited job-related travel may be required. The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for the administration, operation, and continuous improvement of core infrastructure systems including a Microsoft technology stack located largely in the cloud, cloud-based telephony, and related, servers, applications and services across all GreenWaste locations. You will be expected to independently solve operational problems and help improve, streamline, and secure systems and data. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a forward-thinking mindset as well as an eagerness to learn new skills and technologies. The candidate must be highly technical and able to craft novel solutions to technology challenges.

Requirements

  • Strong technical expertise in Microsoft infrastructure (Windows Server, Azure, Active Directory/Entra ID)
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure security and operational best practices
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working in an ITSM and structured change management environment
  • Experience with IP networking concepts
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Exposure to enterprise backup, monitoring, and automation tools
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Information Systems
  • 4+ years systems administration experience within a complex Windows environment
  • Valid Driver’s license, Class C
  • Proficiency in English

Responsibilities

  • Implement, administer, and optimize Microsoft infrastructure and platforms in alignment with approved architecture standards including Server provisioning (on-prem and Azure), Azure IaaS / PaaS operations, Virtualization and host management, OS and platform patching, Backup, restore, and disaster recovery execution, Infrastructure capacity and performance management
  • Administer Active Directory and Entra ID platforms and support identity lifecycle processes in coordination with Service Desk and Cybersecurity
  • Implement and support infrastructure-related platforms and integrations (e.g., backup, identity, server management tools) in coordination with Network, Cybersecurity, and End User Services teams
  • Execute infrastructure security controls including patching, system hardening, and vulnerability remediation in coordination with Cybersecurity, which defines policy and monitoring
  • Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
  • Lead infrastructure workstreams and deliverables within larger IT and business initiatives
  • Interact with the service desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide escalation support when needed
  • Collaborate with Network Administration on infrastructure dependencies; network architecture and firewall configuration
  • Serve as a primary escalation resource for infrastructure incidents and actively participate in incident response and resolution. Execute and validate disaster recovery and failover procedures for infrastructure platforms, including periodic testing
  • Plan and execute infrastructure changes in accordance with IT change management processes
  • Be an escalation point for after-hours support
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed
