Senior Swim Instructor
About The Position
SafeSplash is seeking a Senior Swim Instructor to oversee swim instructor training and continued education. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this role helps maintain a safe, engaging, and high-quality experience for students, parents, and staff. The position includes training and mentoring instructors and lifeguards, supporting curriculum and safety standards, and helping ensure swimmers progress and families receive excellent service. The role requires working weekdays, weeknights, and weekends, for 20 or more hours per week, with hours potentially affected by seasonality. The work is on-site.
Requirements
- Experience in swimming instruction is required.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, adapt, and take initiative.
- Comfort working around water and interacting with children and parents.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and remain on feet for long periods.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are required within 30 days of hire; training is available.
- Lifeguard certification, training, and instructing are required within 90 days; training is available.
Nice To Haves
- At least 6 months of teaching swim lessons at SafeSplash Swim School (preferred).
- Supervisor or team leadership experience in aquatics, education, or a related field (preferred).
Responsibilities
- Provide initial training for new staff and ongoing training for team members.
- Ensure required staff certifications are obtained, current, and compliant.
- Track and manage employee onboarding, certifications, in-services, renewals, and development milestones.
- Supervise instructors and lifeguards to ensure high-quality lessons and compliance with safety and brand standards.
- Coach and mentor instructors in and out of the water.
- Assist instructors in the water with curriculum challenges.
- Conduct quarterly in-services for continued education.
- Provide constructive feedback through evaluations or immediate coaching.
- Collaborate with the management team to determine training needs.
- Ensure customer safety and report unsafe activities, equipment, or instruction to management.
- Provide immediate feedback when instructors do not meet curriculum safety requirements.
- Address customer inquiries and help ensure an exceptional experience and swimmer progress.
- Assist instructors with communicating children’s progress to parents.
