About The Position

This role is responsible for sourcing, validating, and releasing brake controllers for production. The engineer will address controller and system safety concerns, lead product issue investigations, and drive continuous process improvements. They will also facilitate requirements and design reviews, negotiate changes, and manage part number proliferation. The position involves creating and managing controller validation plans, coordinating testing, and ensuring suppliers meet key milestones. The engineer will also be involved in warranty analysis, design changes in production, and supplier/vehicle assembly plant visits. Additionally, they will train and mentor other team members on the roles of a Controls DRE. This is a hybrid position requiring 3 days in-office and 2 days remote, with the ability to report to a local office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or related field of study.
  • 4 years of experience as a Design Release Engineer or related role.
  • Four years of experience with: Managing the release of software for various automotive systems.
  • Four years of experience with: Creating release documentation, including change logs, version histories, and technical specifications for all SW- releases using ECR- System (Engineering change Request).
  • Four years of experience with: Coordinating software releases across different teams including development, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Four years of experience with: Ensuring software components are properly integrated into vehicle systems and software development and release processes comply with industry standards such as ISO 26262 (functional safety) or other automotive-specific software development processes.
  • Four years of experience with: Troubleshooting complex Software related Issues on Various automotive systems / ECU and leading and resolving multiple safety critical issues using PRTS tool.
  • Four years of experience with: Validation activities using CICVAD or Cement tools to ensure that the software integrates correctly with hardware components, and that the overall system is functioning.
  • Two years of experience with: Architecture and communication protocols including CAN, LIN and Ethernet using Architecture tools including Doors IBM, JIRA, and GDM.
  • Two years of experience with: Engineering Cost Proposals (ECPs).
  • Two years of experience with: CAN, LIN, Vehicle spy, Canoe, Rennase tools, and DPS Tools.

Responsibilities

  • Sourcing, validating, and releasing brake controllers for production.
  • Addressing all controller and system safety concerns.
  • Leading and supporting product issue investigations (Problem Resolution Tracking System – PRTS).
  • Driving continuous process improvements, standard methodologies, lessons learned, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Gathering necessary documents for sourcing and providing technical expertise during the purchasing process.
  • Facilitating requirements and design reviews with suppliers, algorithm, and software groups (DFMEA, DRBFM, Peer Reviews).
  • Negotiating changes from supplier, Electrical Architecture, Controls, Software and Cyber Security Engineers and updating controller requirement documents.
  • Organizing and leading key Controller Product Development Team (PDT) meetings.
  • Leading investigations on software related issues.
  • Owning and releasing the software for development and production.
  • Managing part number proliferation for the embedded controller (end model part number, software, and calibration parts).
  • Creating and managing controller validation plans--Worst Case Analysis, Bench (Design Demo), Design and Process Validation.
  • Coordinating activities and managing a full test plan including required supplier testing as well as all other testing required to validate component including, but not limited to: applicable regulatory testing, subsystem integration testing, system safety testing, cybersecurity, etc.
  • Keeping supplier(s) on track to meet key milestones (design freeze, gate reviews for prototype levels, validation start and complete dates).
  • Working with the supplier to develop Validation Cross Reference Index (VCRIs) to ensure all requirements are mapped to appropriate validation procedures.
  • Authoring validation requirements for new sourcing activities and providing as corporate Appendix G2.
  • Issuing part salable status based on successful completion of all required testing.
  • Monitoring design changes in production (via Change Notices).
  • Controller warranty analysis, issue resolution, parts restriction and report updates as required to team leadership/CPIT.
  • Leading annual validation requirements.
  • Supplier and Vehicle Assembly plant visits as required.
  • Training, coaching, and mentoring other team members of the scrum team on the roles of a Controls DRE.
